Forums - Sony Discussion - Just got Uncharted

Haha, yeah I totally agree about the weapons. I just stuck with whatever pistol and shotty that were in good supply. Still thought the game was a blast, though.

Hahah, yes. You know there are balance issues when you panic when you run out of pistol ammo (any pistol in the game, actually) but don't give a shit if you run out of shotty or rifle ammo (except maybe the Colt or German rifle).

Still, it's a very good game and even though it has issues, you never really stop having fun during any part of the game.

I'm about halfway through, just past the jeep chase, and I agree with alot of your guys' impressions. The review posted by davygee nailed it perfectly I thought.

IMO, even though I've only been through about half of it, this was my GOTY for 2007.

Oh yeah, and the discussion about motion controls, I didn't mind them so far for the grendades and balancing bits (which are really few and far between), you can actually skip them when using grenades if you don't want to use them.

Also, another game that I think gets motion controls right that nobody has mentioned is Warhawk for the flight sections, try it out if you don't believe me.

See, this is where I disagree terribly and I've heard a few people say it on this forum.

Uncharted is a good game, as are many others released this year. I don't think it can hold a candle to the atmosphere in BioShock, the gameplay of SMG (which, admittedly, I have very limited time with), or just one great mechanic like the climbing and jumping in Assassin's Creed.

Uncharted does many things well but overall, one gets a lot of "been there, done that" from the game. Almost every good element has been directly ripped from another game and the story feels like Indiana Jones 5, except not quite as much fun and with Nazi zombies from Wolfenstein instead of the real deal. Nothing in this game gives me the feeling that it deserves any kind of award, much less GoTY.

That doesn't mean it's not a good game, I think it is. I just get this nagging feeling the entire time that Naughty Dog basically cut and paste nearly everything in the game and brought nothing original to the table.

Who cares if it's original or not? It a great game, and that's all you can really ask for.

I expect a Game of the Year (in some peoples' eyes here) to offer some new and intriguing gameplay or story, that's all.

Uncharted doesn't offer that.

Cool. It should come in at a decent length then.

If you doing it in hard mode then it should last about 10 hours (maybe a little less, my Son did it 9 hours but it took me 10:15).

But after you done with it Crushing mode is totally worth another go.In crushing mode it took me almost 12 hours to complete. The AI ismuch smarter and forces you to completely change your play style. No way you can stay in cover for more than a few seconds. Crushing mode is frustrating some times, enfuriating other times and massive fun all the time :)

PS: I got all the 1000 medals and both Cartoon Drake and Doughnut Drake are hilarious to play with ;)

Can you take a photo of cartoon and doughtnut drake, i don;t have the heart to find every meddle and play on crushing, let alone hard.

Sure, I'll do a short movie with all of them... will work on this over the weekend (with my video camera so expect bad quality).

Thanks, I have no concern over quality

Sorry man, I was pretty busy this weekend and could not play at all. I'll try to do it tomorrow.

PSN ID: krik

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M

Remember, great game doens't equal great sales there kiddies.

That's actually a really fair assessment of the game.  The only thing I would add is that even with all the copying (and I should remind everyone that part of good game design is copying what others did right) the didn't even copy everything well.  The cover system is pretty bad and, eh, it's just bad.  I'm too tired tonight to go into detail about that and the other problems.

I completely agree, which is why I brought up Gears and that I had just played the game again a few weeks ago; right before Uncharted, actually. The cover system in Gears makes Uncharted look amateurish at times; shit, Uncharted doesn't even have as good a cover system as GRAW or some of the other Ubi games of late.

Again, I'm not saying it's a bad game. I'm just calling a spade a spade here.

I'll never understand that. Innovation is something that only comes 1-5 per generation. You can't possibly expect innovation in every great game that comes out. There has not been a single innovative game this generation.
