Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony To Announce New AAA IP At Gamescon? SCELondon Have Something Up There Selves

Lol, when a company refers to their own game, months/years ahead of release, I know that they are taking the "it cost a lot to make" definition of AAA, as opposed to the "it's a good game" definition.

I can safely say that this game will be like all those others, overhyped by the developers, they will release stills from the pre rendered cutscenes, everyone will think it's amazing, then it will come out and be mediocre.

tl;dr version - the developer does not get to say whether a game is AAA or not.

Often times, games are hyped like that and do release to "AAA" status. Not that it matters, the term "AAA" is very much subjective anyway, although in this case, since it's SCE London, I'm pretty interested.

Indeed, it is quite possible that this game will be good. But to simply accept the developers word for it is to fall for PR at its worst. My point is, so often on this site, the PS crowd overhypes a game based on no more info than has been provided about this game, and it just leads to dissapointment in the cases when it is not a good game. This does also happen with Ninty/MS fans, but not as frequently.

Does it not make more sense to wait until we have seen gameplay of this game to even consider whether it is 'AAA' or not, regardless of what our defiinition of 'AAA' is?

The reason it happens more frequently out of the Sony crowd than the Nintendo/Microsoft factions could be tied to the release lists of first party titles (or third party titles with exclusive content) over the last two years and see that Sony has been developing and publishing more games from in-house developers than either of the other two companies.

Of course you can also look at the track record for the Sony London studios and see that they have potential to make something good (see my post in this thread about EyePet in Home as an example.....not really...)

Another reason is that there are more Sony fans on this site than Ninty + MS combined. I wasn't trying to stereotype or offend people who like Sony consoles.

I also didn't say that the game would not be good, I just said that it is too early to jump to conclusions, which the OP has already done.

Sony usually has the best presentation at Gamescom. I'm not going to go crazy just yet, but I expect a least a game or two announced that's a new IP.

I think Quantic Dream's new game is a given.  They always seem to get a lot of attention from Sony at GamesCom

Sony London's mysterious game wouldn't be surprising as well, though we've had similar reports out of Cambridge for years about some new PS3 IP that never materialized into anything of substance.

And Sony London's game, if it does exist, could still be a ways off, given they're looking for an art director as opposed to just an artist.

am I like the only guy on this forum who can't wait to see what the dontnod project is like?

Dude ur not alone.

I've been waiting for Dontnod Ent. to announce their game. They said they would be at E3 like in May and that got me really excited since they've been rumoroed for quite a long time to be working on a PS3 Exlcusive RPG called Adrift. But then came E3 without any news...

But now I wont have to worry since on their Facebook page (in french), they confirmed that they will announce their new IP at Gamescom.

Seriously if it really is an RPG with the concept arts shown so far... It's certainly going to be amazing and something to look forward to!

lol exactly..every few months I visit their site to see if there is an update...the concept art looks so beautiful. I think they refer to the game as an Adventure/RPG game or something. I saw the FB comment news. My Hype level is through the roof now..hopefully they won't disappoint :D

that is absolute bull at its finest. I mean seriously who started these baseless rumors? more than ms fans? easily. More than Ninty? arguable..I would argue it's the opposite..more than combined? Absolute nonsense

and the OP is excited...about a possible great game/new IP/announcement. No need to read too much into it. everyone is excited to see what will come of it..if it turns out to be meh..no one will be sad...sony has supplied a great list of exclusives this year and 2012 already has many great games announced for it. and as mentioned above..it's subjective, for them it's a big budget...chances are if it has a big budget on it, sony see potential in the game. GC can't come soon enough
