Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony To Announce New AAA IP At Gamescon? SCELondon Have Something Up There Selves

According to a number of recent job listings on the official Playstation Jobs website, SCE London Studio are actively developing an unannounced, visually ambitious ”new IP” – with the development house seeking an ”Art Director” and ”Lead/Senior VFX Artist” with ”Game industry experience having shipped AAA titles”.

The listing, made by Team Soho, apparently seeks a Lead/Senior artist ”with an exceptionally high ambition for its VFX.”

”It is expected that the VFX Artist will be able to creatively problem solve to produce striking and efficient visual effects for the experience. Strong skills in texture creation, coupled with an acute understanding of particle systems and geometry effects are critical. A solid understanding of the technical restrictions of the target platform is essential and the VFX Artist will work closely with the engineering team and Technical Artist to create and implement the effects.”

”We are looking for an experienced Art Director who can successfully set the art style and art vision for a new IP. They will be responsible for directing and inspiring the team from initial concept through to production. The Art Director will be responsible for communicating the art direction to both internal, external, and management teams.”

SCE London Studio is Sony’s largest internal development studio in Europe and is home to a wealth of casual, whimsical franchises including EyePet, Singstar & Eyetoy. The innovative studio places an emphasis on casual, family-friendly titles – and as such it comes as quite a surprise that the studio is ramping up production on a new, visually intensive ”AAA” title – the platform for this unannounced title is unknown as of yet.

The studio was previously working on The Getaway and Eight Days exclusively for PS3, however, both titles were ”put on hold” in 2008. Given that a significant amount of resources were poured into both titles, it would come as no surprise if development on the highly anticipated titles has resumed – considering Eight Days was a new IP.

Sony’s press conference at Gamescom 2011 may shed more light on these forgotten titles.

Team Soho are the guys behind the Getaway, but they haven't really done anything since MacNamara left and the team merged with Studio Camden to create Sony London. However, they were the team working on both the Getaway 3 and Eight Days. At least as far as I know.
