Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you think it is smart for Nintendo to hold back 10 GBA titles?

Alright so we all know of Nintendo's Ambassador program and I re-read my notification from Nintendo and it says that all of the GBA games listed will not be made availible to consumers to purchase. In other words Nintendo is giving those games exclusively to us on the Ambassador Program. But is that really a bright idea?

I myself can't wait to get my hands on some of those VC games I really liked MarioKart on GBA. But what about the rest of the 3DS owners who would love to get their hands on it, or Metroid Fusion. I mean these consumers would be willing to pay 6.99$ or what ever Nintendo charges for GBA games.

I wonder how many thousands to millions of copies these games could sell if Nintendo made them availible for download to the general public. This is ten of Nintendo's best and highest selling GBA games the profit capabilities are outstanding. Nintendo could claw back some profit out of the 3DS.

I could understand one or two exclusive games but ten of the GBA's most successful titles. I'm glad I'm going to get them but I think its a stupid decision by Nintendo not to make these titles availible to all 3DS consumers. I also feel sorry for all the customers who won't be able to buy the GBA VC games , thats just not right.

All the Nintendo first party titles given to Ambassadors should be availible to 3DS consumers for purchase, it makes more buisness sense.

So do you think Nintendo is making a smart decision to give Ambassadors all ten titles exclusively or should they be putting these games for sale for all customers?

It would be nintendo's first smart decision in a long time,if it is.

I personally think that they will add a GBA section to the E-shop VC during the course of the 8th gen. Due to the games already being produced and almost non-existent marginal costs, the price would almost entirely be profit for Nintendo. I would certainly download some of the GBA games I missed and I'm sure many others will too.

They WILL end up on the 3DS Virtual Console, just you wait and see.

im kinda worried that i didnt register on time since i was away from my 3DS for 5 days :(.. nintendo just released a statement yesterday though saying

"Did you miss the registration for the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Programme even though you bought your Nintendo 3DS before 12 Aug 11? Or are you worried that your Nintendo 3DS didn’t register?
Don’t fear!
Nintendo will soon be launching a website, where you will be able to enter the number on the back of your 3DS to see if you registered in time, or your registration was successful.
But even if you didn’t, Nintendo have revealed that you will be able to, via the website, still register as long as you have either of the following:
a) Have created a Friend Code and connected to the Internet with your Nintendo 3DS system prior to August 12th
OR
b) Have retained your original receipt or proof of purchase for your Nintendo 3DS system"

I agree with Cheebee.  Ambassadors get these games for free, right now.  That makes them feel less burned by the sudden, huge price drop.  Later on, when all is forgotten and the 3DS is doing well, these games are probably going to become available to the public.  Ambassadors still won't feel bad because they got the games months earlier AND for free.  I'm almost positive that these games are coming out for everybody, eventually.  They're about as exclusive as Bioshock was for the 360.

This: I see Nintendo making these GBA games timed exclusives first to people in the ambassador club and then to the general public.

I fully expect them to release GBA games on the eShop in the future. They said they have no plans but they never said never. They're just going to wait because if GBA games are available they would kill GB and GBC sales. Part of why there are no GameGear games at the moment. Perhaps next year or the end of next year leading into 2013. I think we'll see them around that time frame.

its stupid

With the recent price cut, if I got all of the older Pokemon games (Generation 1-3) on the VC then I will buy a 3DS.
