Forums - Sales Discussion - Why do people care so much anyways?

Isn't the gaming market big enough for everyone to make money?

We go watch movies such as Spiderman, James Bond, or whatever, and most of us don't ever seen to care if its made by a certain movie studio or not. We just watch movies, enjoy them, and then continue on our merry way.

Sure, the movie studios are competing against each other, but I doubt that there is a "movieticketchartz.org" where Sony fanboys will rip on both Disney fanboys and Universal fanboys or whatever.

Can't we all be satisfied if all the Sony people buy PS-Triples, all the MS people buy Xbox360s and all the Nintendo People buy Wii's? What if its split 33% all three ways and everyone is happy?

I'm trying to make money, that's why I care.

So am i. But why does it matter if I get a PS-Triple and if you get a Wii? We both win if its what we want!

I want more money, buy the Wii

It doesn't really >.> buy what you want and pray some games you enjoy come out for it. Never let people sway your opinions.

Well besides a 33% split not being possible since 33 x 3 = 99 and not 100%, I think its still possible. We had a near 50/50 split during the SNES/Megadrive days and both companies profited quite nicely.

Even in recent generations, Nintendo technically "lost" but it still made money and was profitable for the N64/Gamecube.  I don't see technically as one of those mutually exclusive things (for example, if PS3 is successful, then Xbox will crash and burn). There might be a market leader, and everyone will constant chase the leader, but as long as everyone is profitable and the masses are happy, i don't see the need to have rabid fanboys who rip on me for buying Console A instead of Console B

It matters to me, because I'm a consumer and gaming is one of my primary hobbies, in which I have fun.

Living in a capitalist economy, you are essentially suppose to be a consumer or a producer. By design, if your neither, the system sees you as waste and essentially of no use. ( Read: Worthless )

It also so happens that while living in a cultural hegemony in which I'm suppose to spend money, I am also given the reigns to be critical of my purchases. Of course it is pleasant to do this in a intellectual manner. This factor comes into play due to the fact that I have limited funds, like most people do.

Hence, I like to spend my limited amount of money on things that make me happy. I don't like to buy rubbish that I personally don't find enjoyment from.

This also plays into why I personal tastes in regards to the gaming market. Some companies have certain visions and desires that are going in directions that neither my enjoyment or wallet will follow.

No argument there. You choose what you want according to your preferences and I choose mine. Maybe I don't like Spiderman, but I'll watch James Bond. There's no reason to call you a fanboy or say "hey spiderman is a kiddie movie" if you like Spiderman.

The limited funds thing kind of puts a kink in things, as what if you like both Halo AND Jak? Well then you would still have to choose between the two, I guess. But it doesn't change the premise of my original point. We are the consumers, we choose what we want, and we can be happy, regardless of what the other consumers do!

people have their favorites so they care, its like this in everything.

with cars you get the import fans arguing with the domestics, in martial arts you get the judo vs BJJ vs wrestling then you have the boxers vs kickboxing.  You have democrats and the republicans...

argueing and bitching about something is what makes us human

Exactly. People need ateam to root for and it helps find a connection or bond when you find people who think like you do. This console war is going to be one by one system and the fans of that system will feel comfort in whatever they rooted for might help in the direction of this industry. Th wii being affordable and bringing focus back on pure gameplay. challenging the devs to think out of the box and breath new life into gameplay mechanics and stage design, The 360 puching the boundaries of internet gaming and the PS3 which steamrolls into the future with uber powerful tech (stuff a video game maybe shouldn't hae but will take this industry to interesting place as they creat new techniques to tackle this system.

Its a war of opinions and ideologies
