Forums - General Discussion - Men of VGC: Can you cook?

I have my Grandmother's sourdough starter and make French Bread, Bisquits (That's how she spells it) and Pancakes sometimes from scratch.

Definitely keep those handmedown wares. They are irreplaceable and often better than the new stuff you could buy nowadays.

No. I cannot cook. I can barely cut bread.

What you need is a $150 bread knife to cut your bread.

WOW, that's what I was missing. You're so wise Galaki.

i do my own breakfeast and i know how to fry stuff.

I can cook a bit. Nothing fancy, though. Some pasta dishes, pizza, some dishes involving meat.
And I make my own pretzels!

Now that's impressive.

Thanks.

I have to make them myself, because no bakery in a reasonable distance sells them. Pretzels are one of the few things I really missed in Japan.

Yes! I make great salads, fish, lasagna, spaghetti, and risotto!

(I love my Italian cuisine)

That's funny you posted this. I was looking into buying some decent knives earlier this year and I looked at some of the Globals as well as a bunch of other Japanese steel. Then I realized that I don't have a good cutting board so after looking into that, I decided I wanted to make one. THEN I realized that I don't have the tools to do it so the whole idea got put on the shelf.

Sharp knives are less likely to cause you to cut yourself since they don't slip off whatever you're cutting.

Doesn't have to be over $100 each though :)

It's a lot of fun when the knives are sharp, too. You can cut stuff with much ease.

Yeah well I did eventually buy a cheapo cutting board and a couple of relatively cheap knives because what I initially owned was atrochious. I was extremely impressed with how well the knives cut through. Te feel of it was so drastic that it didn't seem like I was cutting the same meats, all this from a minor upgrade. I will eventually make a bigger jump in quality, probably when I can invest more time to cooking as a whole.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

I can bake, and cook to a lesser extent
