Am I missing something here? the core 360 has always been 300 dollars.

now as in if the price of its rival mattered so much to Nin they would be cutting wii price due to the $300 xbox.

nintendo could care less what other companies are doing if they are selling out their supply.

yep, but kiddys still make dumb threads like this one.

How could you forget "WAR SONY"?

you really are a kiddy joke.

they will cut their profits in half just because sony cuts the PS3 price by a 100 or even 200

... the 360 Core is $300 you dont see Nin cutting price do you. A $400 Ps3 is still alot more then the kiddy toy.

its nice you Nin fanboys got to come out of the closet after 12 years of getting owned but it wont last.

Here Hus, let me rewrite this post for you.

Hus - I really don't see it happening that way.

regardless of a PS3 price cut, I don't see why Nintendo would want to forfeight so much profit.

... the 360 Core is $300 and Nintendo hasn't cut it's price over that. And even after significant price cuts, a $400 Ps3 is still a lot more than the Wii

See Hus, by removing the stupid flamebait, you're able to say what you want to say, and have people actually pay attention to your points. Neat how that works isn't it?

damn thats called "people skills"...

Nintendo has this price war in the bag! According to EAGames/Sega in 2005 they said that a 175USD price point would gain Nintendo substantial profit. They stated that the price of 170USD was likely going to be Nintendo's final price-point for the Wii. Nintendo said under 300$ and we got a console that sells for 275CDN. If Nintendo would have been turning a profit at 175USD then they are really turning a huge profit at 250USD. This means Nintendo can afford to take hardware losses later on allowing them to drop their hardware price by 2011 below the 100USD mark.

Microsoft's stance in this war is pretty decent, Microsoft had announced they have returned to profitability with their 360 Premium hardware. Indicating a drop in manufacturing costs that is going to help them alot in the short term. Essentially this gives Microsoft the ability to drop their prices a bit. Some like me believe after Elite is launched the core unit could go as low as 299$ competing with the Wii this fall.

Sony has left no room for any logical price cut. Sony was last said to be loosing around 300USD on every single unit. Since they have removed an emulation chip and are working really hard to bring down the manufacturing costs. Sony discontinued their 20-gig platform so they could focus more resources on the 60-gig model. If Sony does cut its price this year or at any point this generation it will likely be a last move. When Sony is so desperate that their willing to take even larger losses to keep the PlayStation brand in tact they will likely cut the price of the PS3 lower.

By 2011, I expect we'll see Wii around 169.99USD , 360 around 199.99USD and PS3 around 299.99USD. Essentially Sony will be forced to cut prices or die, at the moment they have to sell tons of games to make up for their hardware losses that number is only going to keep growing!

Sony should just go for broke, and sponsor a price cut for the Samsung blu-ray player to get the selling price below the $399 toshiba model. I keep saying it, but the $2-$4 liscencing fees that come from each BR DVD sold, will have no work involved.  Its all gravy, and sony doesn't need no diet.

If they did that all the other hardware companies on board with BR would jump ship and Sony would wind up with Betamax 2.0. Samsung has already fired a warning at Sony by announcing the hybrid BR/HD-DVD player.

Samsung is sony's major producer of blu-ray players, as I doubt that LG's $1200(blu-ray and HDVD) player is moving many units at all, so your first point is incorrect, as they don't even have any power if they ain't movin units, bud..   Your second point of samsung's loyalty is also incorrect.  Samsung is merely its wealthiest clients play both sides, so that no matter who wins, samsung wins.

speaking of market share.

Nintendo is number one software house in japan since ever...and second worldwide.

they own portable market since ever.

all in gamers community recognize this...

sony and microsoft as software house can't compare with Nintendo.

Nintendo offers the best in software/hardware.

sony and microsoft without well paid third and second parties are nothing.

Nintendo in their "dark age" alone without third party support made games like mario64 and Ocarina of time considered masterpieces in game history!!!!

also look about ratio between games and console for psp...

if ps3 comes in similar numbers...ouch!!

Lets see ...after the last data of this page(february 2007 ) PSP has sold in NA some 30 million games and 7.78 million consoles .THe DS has sold some 42 million games for 11 million consoles .The ratios are 3.85 for the PSP and 3.81 for the DS .....I dont see the PSP ratio as very bad .Issue is that the bulk of the DS sales are 3-4 Nintendo games that appear in the top ten and create an impression ,but as far as ratio go they are even ,the PSP even edges out the DS for some margin .Having so  many users that buy the machine solely for Nintendogs and BT has some of these aftereffects .And in Europe the situation is more or less the same .THe only place where PSP and specially its software sells really poorly compared to DS is Japan where the ratios are 2-1 for the DS .And thats having in count the PSP suffers from some massive piratery ,and the PS3 wont suffer that for quite some time ...

You just said it, they are playing both sides whereas before they were only playing one side.

I think its just the opposite ,most people that can afford the Wii can afford it right now so its demand is about as good as it will get .Some killer games (that I doubt it will have ,at least in comparision with the others ) can help for sure but not a lot of people are holding down for the machine to drop its price ...a price drop from 250 to 200 or 150 is not that important .

At the same time the PS3 is expensive but can reduce costs fast (Sony being the manufacturer of many components and closing deals of production with others enterprises as the recent ones ) and if and when it drops the price significantly it will attract a lot of gamers that right now are playing the waiting game .Besides shops have a minimum retail price beyond what its not profitable to stock the machines ,I would say thats 79 for hanhelds and 99 for home consoles .PS3 has a lot more margin to drop the price that Wii .Couple that with killer games ,Home and the assumption by the gamers community that the free online saves money and the PS3 can return in force (not that it is doing badly right now ) again .

you have no idea how absolutely wrong you are =)

No ,nor do you .In fact I think I am pretty right ,the PS3 right now only appelas to certain demographics ,the Wii to much more .The succesive price drops may open the Wii some reducts but will win the PS3 the entry into the mass market the Wii is already into ,and once that is managed with its far superior hardware ,peripherics ,software (system sellers for hardcore and for casuals through the Eye Toy ,Dance Dance Rev ,Singstar ,Buzz ! ,kiddie games ,Platinum Range ) and the marketing of Sony behind sales will improve and it has a lot more of room for it .
