Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Did Nintendo Just blow it?

Well disappointingly I'm gonna have to say Sony won. Microsoft was arguably the worst but Nintendo's wasn't much better. Sony's was good but not great. It didn't deserve first place for sure. Sony never really surprised us.

I didn't see the whole conference, but I tuned in at around the time they were talking about the new controller, wasn't impressed by it or the games they announced for it, although the GTA style lego game looks kinda cool. The new controller looked really odd and it looked quite big, I was left thinking 'Is that controller going to be comfortable to use'. They seem to be going after the hardcore auidence with this console which I can understand on one sense, but at the same time I'm a little confused by it, Nintendo are obviosly a casual/family friendly driven company, there's no denying that. Why would Ps3 or 360 owners jump ship to this? Because Wii U provides graphics that are on par or 'slightly' better than 5+ year consoles?

There is potential, no doubt about it, it just didn't get me at all exicted.

Hands on impressions say it's surprisingly comfortable, but I guess something like that would vary from person to person.

As for the graphics, we have no idea how much better they are than the competition.

If you love mario, then nintendo won.

ALthough I'm liking the new wiiU thing...I just think it may be a little late to the party.

I mean NGP is going to have interactivity with the ps3. I'm sure Vita will be capable of acting as a ps3 controller, and even doing a lot of those same functions as well.

One day late to the party?

Seriously though, the Vita may do a lot of what this can do, but we have to remember that this is only a controller, not a full-blown handheld system. The Vita can do a hell of a lot, but it's still a $250 handheld game system. The Wii U controller is a pack-in controller for a console. They really shouldn't be compared.

Of course they blew it, the Wii U is destined to be a failure The system abandons everything that made the Wii successful. Its not about combating disinterest, or increasing the audience of gaming. Its basically a gamecube 2, the whole idea of connectivity that began with the GBA-Gamecube connection to fruition. (Although it will likely be a lot cheaper to buy 4 Wii U-pads than 4 Vita's or 4 3DS's which would set you back $1000)

The system cedes to every other form of entertainment, and isolates the gamer, totally different than what was the Wii's intention of competition with all other entertainment by bringing everyone together.

Not to mention, that big tablet with all the controls will probably scare more people away from gaming

Not impressed yet, but I see the potential. Probably a mistake to have the full reveal at E3. Maybe it would have been better to wait until Tokyo or Europe for a full reveal when their would have been more content to show.

I liked it, I think people will come around when they show 1st party games at Tokyo Game Show or some other press conference.

I listened tothe speech at the beginning, but what they showed shows something very different.

maybe you need to watch the presentation again.

What they showed was that the TV is for other stuff, and the Wii U is relegated to being played on the small tablet, baseball, TV shows, maybe even other consoles can all force the Wii U games to be played on the small screen.

What they showed was people playing on the tablet by themselves away from everyone else.

What they showed was a very complex, bulkiy looking and expensive controller

@tizona who is hating?? you asked why a core gamer who already owns an Hd console will not want a a Wii U. Price and having games available to them already on a console they own are factors to them not purchasing. If you dont already have an HD and/or one of those zealots who cant bring themselves to get something not made by Ninty then enjoy Wii U. Im going to get it cause the WIi will pretty much be a paperweight by the time this comes out

This is SO UNFAIR! The new controller is made of one iPad, one WiiMote and TWO Nunchucks duck-taped together!!!
