Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Forza 4 will boast a polygon count of over 1 million compared to 400,000 in Forza 3?

They can list whatever polygon numbers they want, their lighting engine is still years behind what GT5 has. Their ingame models still look worse, as you can see from ingame videos of Forza4. The cars still don't react in anyway to the surface of the road or bumps from other cars, once again its a car not a magic carpet.

But they still have many months left to go, so maybe they can fix the floating car problem.

You're right, their new lighting model sucks:

/sarcasm

I never said it sucked for starters, i said it was still years behind what GT5 has.

And you consider that clip "years behind"?

is that Ferarri picture real or graphics? o.O

If it was real the right mirror that is visible would actually have a shadow on the car......

if you're going to post a picture trying to demonstrate the graphics and lightning model, pick one where they get it right...

Hey look!  Shadows on the mirrors!

I dont know about others but it isn't loading for me so I will post a link to it: http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6318570/

I must say though that it is an incredibly pretty game, and it sounds like it has been improved it almost all gameplay aspects too. This is a must buy for me, can't wait to see what the limited edition version is like.

Gotta be honest I thought Forza 3 already looked better than GT5 did for the most part. GT5 had it beat with some of its premiums but as a whole Forza 3 was the better looking game.

And Forza 4 utterly blows it out of the water honestly. I never got the GT5 hype. Sure it IS the most realistic sim out there but I just don't see it as on par with Forza both graphically and gameplay wise.

But I can understand the love for Gran Turismo, it just seems really dated to me.

No question GT5 had better lighting than FM3 but it lagged behind in many other areas graphically....shadows, mostly low poly cars (with no cockpit views for those) and inconsistent environment quality.  Feature wise it was no contest IMO, FM3 was better, especially with things like the livery editor.  Now with the new lighting model and other graphic improvements I think FM4 surpasses GT5 in terms of graphics.

The one thing I'm still hoping to see is weather but there have been hints that they will indeed have weather effects.

I was already hyped for this game, but after looking at the gameplay I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Oh and it looks like they are putting those polygons to some very good use, as the graphics looks simply amazing.

It looks A LOT better than GT5. look at the backrounds and 3d objects in the backrounds. Forza 4 even forza 3 backrounds are a lot better than gt5. I would post some pictures. but this site doesnt work well on my computer. (I can't even make threads or edit things)

the first part was funny but that had me in tears, and shows exactly why you will NEVER get the GT5 hype.

Well they boasted about the poly count with Forza 3 too but the game didn't turn out that impressive graphically. I ain't buying this now. It doesn't matter how many fake polygons they use if the car still doesn't look that much better.

I didn't see anything wrong with Forza 3's graphics but if you say so. Game was pretty great too... I am rarely hyped for racing games but Forza 4 has me psyched. So much so that I will be ordering one of these as soon as I can.

Don't get me wrong, I am also hyped for Forza 4! (in my case thanks to the thing where you can examine the car in detail in the show room)

But I mean that they boasted about polygon count in Forza 3 and then some people compared the graphics with Forza 2 and concluded that they hadn't improved in a major way (I fink). So I am not buying into the polygon hype is what I meant, but I will buy the game.
