Forums - Sony Discussion - PSN accounts threatened by new password exploit

Wow... that's just... stupid.  At least someone caught it this time before it got bad.

By this point, I just feel sorry for Sony.

yeah, this was a helpful user who provided Sony the information.

I mean, come the fuck on Sony. You make it incredibly hard to defend you.

What happened to that update where passwords could only be set from the console? Did I imagine all that?

Problem is that it's for the original PS3 that your account was created on, but not everyone has their first system. Malfunction, buy and sell, crazy kids, etc. That's what the online option was for.

Which was done through your email.  This was apparently an exploit where you didn't need to go through someones email... but just know what it was.

All those people that had the original 60GB systems where the thermal paste wore out and sent it off to Sony only to have them send back a different system... I just feel sorry for them... they're the core that stuck with Sony even with the 599 dollar price tag, despite the slow trickle of games for a while, and now after not having PSN for nearly a month they might have serious issues changing passwords and accessing PSN again?  Really feel sorry for those guys -_-

This doesn't bother me, I mean I changed my pass the moment PSN went back up, but for those who have yet to get back on it could be a problem, I guess the best solution is for those who have yet to sign in need to, those that don't own their original system anymore might need to hold tight till Sony finds a decent solution.

My Thermal Paste is fine...

though I have a 20 GB.

Wierd though... cause I run my PS3 a LOT.  I use it for constant hours of Firepro simulation.

This is old news.

Well it's just like there are some launch 360s still going out there but there is a percentage of failures you're just one that falls on the good end of that statistic.  It's just really common for older PS3s and it's their main issue, my friend who repaired his twice, it just now gave up the ghost again and he doesn't think its the thermal paste anymore.  Which might be the second most common problem, which is the disc drive going out, and Sony wants 120 for that plus they don't typically send you back your own unit... soooo... he's pretty much screwed unless he finds a local repair shop or does it himself.

120... yikes.  I know i'd go straight repair shop.  Screw losing BC.

Biggest reason I was pissed they removed it really.
