This is like the first year in like 5 years SE was in the red anyways. Not good. But... nintendo was hundreds of million in the red last year remember?

No, that's not true at all.

Around the Network

S-E wouldn't get bought over by MS.  S-E just really need to get DQX out and that won't be anywhere near as successful if it is on 360.

hmm I thought Sony holds like a third of square-enix share, so a Buyout from Microsoft is not very likely

also square should have just stayed Exclusive to playstation, look how they struggle since they went multiplat

sony holds like 8% not sure the exact number. It was 20% after the FF movie flopped, but when square and enix merged... yeah.

OT:
It's not a big deal currently if they fix it, they have (Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Final Fantasy XIII-2) coming out. FFXIV was a financial failure. Atleast thus far... expecting them to be profitable when you have that disaster... is almost like expecting them to be profitable when the FF movie flopped.

remember RARE. And it's a significant risk for microsoft.

That is false mister.

yeah I was wrong... it was a quarterly loss of 289 million. not yearly.

SE loss was in one quarter as well. Nintendo did well enough the other quarters to profit yearly. SE didn't.

... anyways FFXIV was a disaster. If they keep doing (financial disasters) then it is bad. But the last one for them I remember was the FF movie.

I love it!

Wouldn't be a good idea, IMO. Microsoft doesn't have a good track record with purchases. Like with FASA and Rare, there's a good chance Microsoft would hollow Square-Enix out and totally destroy their development culture...

Oh, wait. Wada already did that. Nevermind! Buy 'em, MS!

As probably one of the biggest Square-Enix supporters on this site. I know this may sound odd as hell but this needed to happen to them. Square got to the point where Sony got in 2006. They thought people were just going to buy their shit because it said Square-Enix on it. Hopefully this impact will strengthen the quality of their games so they don't continue to release garbage like Kane and Lynch/Gun Loco.

Stick to what you do best SE. Make JRPGS. No one said you HAVE to have the bestest graphics in the world.

With the exception of my not really being a S-E supporter anymore, I fully agree with this post. Go back to making quality JRPGs, and I'll be more inclined to buy. The problem I see is your last sentence. S-E has been developing the FF fanbase to demand pretty graphics, thus keeping the cost of the games much higher than it needs to be. So I'm more concerned that if they did cut graphics, they'd lose a fair amount of their current install base. Conversely, by continuing to throw money at graphics instead of the gameplay, they keep a lock on this base, since no other company is willing, or, in many cases, can even afford, to throw as much money at graphics as S-E. Thus, they keep the graphics-whore base, keeping sales high on what has been mediocrity for quite a while...
