Seems like this little malfunction is gonna cost Sony alot of money to fix, not to mention the lawsuites and bad publicity PSN is recieving. I hate to say it but this Reminds me of the red ring of death for 360.....How much did Ms lose because of that little disaster?

TOUGH LUCK SONY, HOPE YOU GET BACK ON YOUR FEET

would you consider leading console sales ytd as something that requires "get back on your feet'?

if that's the case, what is Wii and xbox doing right now? crawling?

PSN is free, now if I had paid fees to access it like the xbox outage during Christmas, i would be mad. However, how mad can you be for something that is giving free??

PS3 aint exactly leading by mile now is it?

This year? Yeap... 600k... or more than 20%.

If this turns into a full blown crisis for ID theft for tons of PSN users, then it overshadows the RRoD as much as the sun overshadows the moon. If it just blows over and really no data has been stolen, then the red ring will still be far, far worse then this.

This sums up my thoughts rather well.

You are aware that in terms of sales over a year 600k is litteraly nothing right.......

the systems are going to sell more than that in a single week during the holidays.  Sony is very very very far from having this year secured in terms of consoles sales.

Anyways as others have said it really all depends.  Financially I think the RROD will be far worse unless ID theft turns into a big issue and Sony starts facing mad lawsuits.

From a image viewpoint though this has already had a severe impact in the states.  I fully expect PS3 sales to drop in America where the brand is weaker.  Its been getting horrible publicity.

You are being picked on because you start things you can't finish.

"PS3 aint exactly leading by mile now is it?" was really not needed though, but you felt you had to say something. But people read and see your intentions, thus you become a target.

You are not the protector of MS, you don't have to defend everything, learn to take the positive with the negative, your blood pressure wont be moving around so much.

No.

Because I hate to spend more money in a new consoles (RROD)... PSN is free after all, no money in trash.

RROD victims didn't spend more money. MS fixed their 360's for free. If people had to pay for their own repairs or replace their 360's with their own coin then MS would have profited from the RROD due to people re-buying their consoles as opposed to losing over a billion dollars which is what actually happened.

Most I knew just bought a new console. They believed their warranties had already expired at the time, or simply wanted a new console sooner than later. And shipping it off to Microsoft was unlikely to be a quick resolution.

As for this, it's unlikely to be that much of an issue. They'll lose a little money for the period afterwards, with around a 5% down, on PSN sales for at least 1-2 months after this is resolved. Insurance will cover pretty much any other financial loss. Even if they WERE found to be negligent... it's unlikely consumers will see all that much success with the lawsuits. It doesn't look like the information lost is going to lead to any financial loss to the individual consumer, so any reporations Sony would need to pay wouldn't be too significant.

This doesn't compare to a massive hardware failiure, like RROD. With employment, shipping, court cases etc, that type of problem runs up an obsene cost for the company.

To be fair, a class-action lawsuit isn't something to be sneezed at either.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

not true, I informed Microsoft about my RRoD, and was told since I got it over 3 years ago, it does NOT qualify.

had to pay 199 for another one.

Yes. People here in VGC thinks warranty covered all cases of RROD but many 360 are replaced without warranty.

Not to mention the fact that RROD doesn't equal failrate and a ton more people had their machines broke but not RROD so no warrenty despite the fact that it was still cause of MS putting out garbage
