Forums - Sony Discussion - Will the psn become a paid service after this issue is resolved?

I only ask becuase the psn being down right now is without a doubt costing sony money so do you think thy wil mk th psn a paid service and use that money to hire more personel for better security or somthing of that nature?

no, they already have a paid service.

and having it down probably isn't costing Sony all that much money, as it is a free service.  So...

/end thread

Plus isn't really paid service and as long as the psn is down people won't be buying/renting movies or buying gams online. I normally rent movies from the psn but since it's down I got something off direct tv...sony just lost some money see?

I hope not paying for internet,buying games, and now gotta pay for a consoles online services to much for some people. Only reason Microsoft does it cause well they love money ALOT.

They already have a paid service, plus members will get some kind of "oops we are sorry for the f*ck up, here's your reward for being patient enough even if you weren't" item on the PSN.

Plus is more like a vip club. The money they make on plus would be nothing if they started making everyone pay to play online.

plus is the paid model Sony opted for.  They aren't going to come out with a paid model, and then switch it up a year later with a different paid model.  The whole idea behind this thread is pretty ridiculous to be honest with you.  This wouldn't make good business sense for Sony to make a previous free service cost money in the middle of a cycle.  Plus is the closest you will get to it.

As far as money Sony is losing, I honestly don't think it will be that large of an amount.  While Sony is losing on on some money from digital sales (most of which goes to the company that actually makes whatever product is being sold)  Sony also has to pay the cost of having the system.  All those servors and transactions fees aren't free you know.  So while Sony is losing money in some areas, they are saving in others.  So, realistically, Sony isn't losing all that much money here.

That's not happening. They would lose one of their bragging rights against their competitors of having free online.

Its going to remain free this gen and probably next gen too. They have nintendo and the PC for competition, Live will charge but they are the only ones.

This isn't such a big deal for them. Making a game probably costs them more.

eh, I think they will charge next gen.  As it is they make the developers pay for the bandwidth, which keeps some of the smaller indie developers off of their system.  No way in hell will they charge this gen though.

Its ridiculous to ask a simple question lol? Sony was the same company that said people can get two jobs to get a ps3. Yes plus was something th opted for but I find it strange that they haven't boasted about the number of users who got plus (been waiting for those numbers for a while).

@mantlepiecek

thanks for response, I was a little concerned I would have another bill to pay lol
