Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bulletstorm. Best FPS this gen. Yeah. I said it.

I love how it was a non serious shooter, its like a slight breath of fresh air in a elevator filled with COD farts (farts being the COD knock off games) that being said, the SP was meh at best.

It just has to be a mother effing linear campaign huh? God for bid they actually stop treating me like im handycapped and let me explore the way i want...Why not just tie a fucking string around my waist and guide me through the game like fable 3 did! Oh wait i forgot, Fable 3 let me EXPLORE!

But i suppose it the humor made it less of a chore to play.

I'll admit I enjoyed my playthrough.  Has that Duke Nukem appeal with a punk dialogue in it.  But unfortunately the game is extremely shallow.  And when I mean shallow, I literally mean shallow.  It's fun to take a dip in the pool of blood and gore, but you quickly realize it doesn't have a deeper end and you come out.

Now this isn't to say I didn't like it.  I loved the weapons and using them for their cool destructive purposes.  The story was interesting enough to keep me going and it had a decent variety in its progression.  The fault of the game comes from the reliance solely on the unique weapons.  Due to this it makes it a fun game that you play once and then really let it collect dust.  As we say in gaming once you do all there is to do in the game then it's time to shelve it.  Well unfortunately for Bulletstorm, doing all there is to do is experiencing each of the weapons.

Now after beating the game, it obviously lends itself to a sequel and I would love for them to give it another shot, but they are really going to have to take it beyond being just a demonstration of what you can do with a few cool weapons and work that into a full and complete shooter.

There is a reason why Halo and Half-Life are considered the best.  You accept the invite into their world to play in the sandbox of weapons, battles, and enemies but you stay in the world because of the setting, story, characters, and atmosphere.

But hey I still rated Bulletstorm pretty decently because I can respect a game that simply wants to be fun.  Not everyone has to be an epic.  But I do think for a sequel, they should focus on more ways to kill, more weapons, and more randomness that leads to unique ways to end battles and progress.  If the can keep the game feeling new everytime you play it then they truly have a winner on their hands.

It's quite disturbing and funny that I am alone on this. LOL.

But I genuinely think this about Bulletstorm. I never in a million years expected it when I put the disc in.

Story doesnt matter, and there is no need to take it slow or choose said stealth option etc.

In a world of games trying to be realistic, especially in the FPS genre it's refreshing to play a game that goes out of it's way to be a game. Just pure fun, like the original Doom or Duke Nukem 3d.

It seems to exist just to make you smile.

I love it. And I'm not at all sorry I do. I'll say again. I think it's better than any other shooter this gen. Including Half Life 2 and Reach.

Its not even the best this year

That would be Crysis 2 so far.

Crysis 2 is a joke and a massive disappointment. Not unlike bulletstorm. Its certainly no painkiller.

Crysis 2 was awesome  and is FPS of the Year thus far. Story was great but got a little unusual towards the end but keeps you griped to your seat all the way through, the graphics are jaw dropping, the AI..while not the best out there is still better than most, the gameplay is pretty nicely balanced and being able to switch your abilities on a whim and use them as you please for tackling obstacles was well thought out. Oh and how about the fact it also has one of the longest FPS single player campaign in a good while.

How can you call that a massive dissapointment??

Even with Duke Nukem Forever, FEAR 3, Resistance 3, The Darkness 2, Battlefield 3 and so on still aimed for release this year... I don`t see many of those titles likely surpassing Crysis 2 as the best FPS of the Year.

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

It's Selnor guys, let him do his thaang. Was Crysis 2, now its BulletStorm, according to the rumors, the next game is GeoW3.

then forza 4 :P

Nothing wrong with that. Selnor has good taste in games. Oh BTW the Bulletstorm demo was nothing but a small Anarchy Mode stage taken from one of the major levels in the game. It is good for a taste of the creative kills you can pull off if you know what you are doing but as far as being a good representation of the whole package... not even close.

The gameplay in the full game is much more diverse than what you see in that brief demo stage. I found the demo to be average at best but the full game is one of the better FPS out there. Not to mention the dialog in the game is amusing as hell.

The dialog is funny but other than that yeah I can see how you could look at it that way but anarchy mode has the story bits taken out so you really can`t judge based off the demo on that. The skillshot system was a bit basic in the demo as well. You did not have the ability to use the thumper aand many of the guns were locked out and there was hardly any unique skill shots available to check out on that anarchy mode stage.

The demo doesn`t give you enough of a taste of what the game is really like.Let me put it this way...if you liked the demo you will for sure enjoy Bulletstorm & if you did not find it that great you may or may not find the game good once you play through the full game. Its kind of a 50/50 on this game.

How about you try the actual game out and then get back to me with your results. You may find that you actual enjoyed it.
