Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Hypothetical

Here's something Ive been wondering about - since Nintendo is raking in the cash right now and so many other companies in the video game market are stumbling, whats to stop Nintendo from buying one or two of them in some kind of "major coup" like MS bought bungie shortly after Halo was being demo'ed on a MAC.

Is it possible for Nintendo to buyout a companie like square-enix, turning its titles into exclusives, willingly or hostily, or what about Take-2? Nintendo is making profit hand over fist, why can't they use some of that profit to bolster their "core" gamer market as well as deprive their rivals (and MS/Sony are their rivals) games that people have been looking forward too?

i don't think they see the need too do that, BIG investment for relative small returns

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

but it is possible

I dont know if the returns would be that small, yes your talking about a few franchises, but take-two for one has the MLB license, and square has a very large library of games/rpg's that would be beautiful on the VC, bringing them under first party development might be the thing to get their franchieses back on track. Not to mention it would bolster their standing against their nearest rival (ie; MS) + for them - for their enemies.

Would GTA be GTA if Nintendo owned it??

Would they allow you beating the crap out of prostitute and shooting innocent people if it was owned by Nintendo??

Nope

I think they would, I think they found that appealing to a "broader" base is the best thing for them, and didnt "Godfather" include much of the same kind of play?

Some developer companies should just never be pinned down into making exclusives. If they do it by choice then so be it, and they must have their reasons. But if they are forced into it, the games will not be the same, and devs may leave.

Nintendo cant buy square enix.

Even if they tried, sony owns 10% of the company.

mM

but it might be teh only way for sony to break even :P

So what do you think about Bungie and MS? Do you think it was good for Bungie? did they make anything other than Halo and now that the Halo trilogy is over and MS threw them out of the car how will they fare? Maybe your right, I still think its possible, and even if Sony owns 10%, if Nintendo owned 90% they'd still be in control, it would just mean that Sony got 10% of the profits from a system that wasn't theirs. None the less it's merely wishful thinking, and I still think its a possibility.
