Don't you mean "pirate community"? Because obviously all people who don't want to be spied on and who wish to retain features they paid money for are dirty pirates, and should be put to death like the scurvy dogs they are!

On Sunday, Sony announced that it the next Playstation 3 firmware update will cut off “Other OS” support, which allowed users to install Linux distributions on the console. Effective April 1, PS3 Linux users will have to back up their data and wave goodbye to the feature or avoid the update and sacrifice online play and other features. Sony has only pinned the change on “security concerns,” but hacker George “Geohot” Hotz, who released the first-ever PS3 hack earlier this year (preceded by several high-profile iPhone jailbreaks), which could ultimately allow piracy or other nefarious uses of the consoles, believes he played a role
at the end of 2009, George Hotz announced via his blog that he was attempting to hack the PS3. His way in was through Other OS. The PS3's security "Hypervisor" allowed homemade Linux to run, but in a supervised mode with no access to lower level system functionality. Geohot bypassed the hypervisor, and published elements of the exploit online leaving the rest of the work to other hackers to work on pirated games playable on PS3 and cheating online . Sony's response was to issue Firmware update v3.21, which disabled Other OS, removing the Linux fuctionality and closing the system to home coders.
