Forums - Sony Discussion - modnation racers. WTH happened???

really PS3 gamers, thats all Modnation did. Oh sure you can say combined with the PS3 version it has sold over a mil, but man this was supposed to be the ish. Its pretty much LBP Kart, I mean that in a good way and that game did great. Are we too cool for childish kart racing games?? Was the load times too much, its not like they havent fixed it with a patch( i know devs shouldnt be relying on that, but thats another rant). Was it too hard??? Gamers are supposed to want a challenge, FYI  i beat the campaign mode BEFORE they put in the patch to make it easier. Those two problems i just mentioned are fixed, so for the most part, IMHO MNR is damn near flawless, the online community is still there.

I think its because the game does not have a mascot. LBP has Sack boy, and mario kart has mario. The game deserves way more sales. It really is amazing =l

the problem is, this game needs skill, this aint no mario kart where everyone can win at a party! If you know how to play then you will allways win! the ones who doesnt know will lose! (of curse there is skill in mario too)

I really enjoyed the game at first, but nobody ever wanted to play with me, and it got boring VERY fast!

For this one i have no damn idea. I guess alot of racing games around that time. Hot Pursuit and GT5 were only ones that made it big. I am interested in seeing what others have to say. Also how active is the online for the game?

It seems you haven't played Mario Kart much. You can't win without skill, try a match with someone like Rol and I'm sure that he wins you at least 99 out of 100 times.

no not really...Modnation came out in May...at that time we didnt even know to 100% if GT5 will release this year and Hot Pursuit was coming in November Modnation is a fun kart racing...you cant really compare it to a Need for Speed or Gran Turismo...so this wasnt a problem...

i mean Sony dont got the biggest sellers...but IMO Modnation really underperformed...i got a friend who got this and still playing it online (to note he also got Gran Turismo 5)...so i guess that even if it wasnt a big seller...all the owners heavily enjoyed it...

Oh i meant that Blur and Split Second also came in the same month. So 3 good racing games in the same month may have caused the sales to be fragmented.

ahh...hmm yes this will be the case...3 new racer-IPs...of course the exclusive get the short straw ^^

I, personally, loved the game and think adults would have more fun on it than kids. The game lacked the creativity that LBP had. Every top-downloaded character or kart was just a rip-off of well known characters and vehicles. What hurt the game's sales was probably because it lacked identity - something of course that a mascot might have solved.

What happened?

It was bad game - simply.

I tested beta and it had ugly loading times and I didn't see any reason to spend cash on something like this.

Also huge mistake was not putting sackboy there.
