@ radiantshadow  You should try out Metroid: Other M.  The more that I read your posts, the more that I'm convinced that you'd love it.

I'm not saying this as an insult.  It's just that our opinions on games are about as different as can be.

Yep thats what i said. It looks like it might be up my alley. Ill rent it and try it out when i have the chance. Too each his own eh? But you Wii guys really all have to play infamous lol

I'd check it out if it were on the Wii, but it isn't.

I don't get the joke.  Is it all cut scenes or something?

I'll take Fallout 3, Uncharted 2 and Call of Duty 4 (including online) over any 3 games you can name from any of the previous generations.

Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Brothers, Ocarina of TIme (And I´m a Sony Fanboy)

I like the old Mario games as much as the next guy but I think people are way too nostalgic over them. I get that they're timeless classics but after having played modern games there's no way I could go back to playing 2D mario games for any extended period of time. I think I'd get bored very quickly.

I can't really comment on DKC or OoT because I never owned a N64, the only time I played those games were briefly at my friends houses.

Well, one could say that nostalgy plays a part on the feeling we have for those games, but since playing NSMB, I can´t help but remember how I felt playing the original in SNES, just as with DK. DK was the first game I actually finished, since I have the bad habit of not finishing my games. And OoT I played in a friends 64, along with Goldeye and Mario 64 and it´s vivid in my mid the feelings I got playing them.

I actually recomend that you try DKC and OoT, if you can emulate them on PC. Amazing games.

Yes I must say NSMBW was a lot of fun to play, especially splitscreen with at least one other person. I guess partly I'm just hating on Nintendo because I've always been a Playstation guy and I don't have Nintendo nostalgia.

I really wish I had played Ocarina of Time back when it was new. The first time I played it was actually about a year ago which is kind of sad, and its not the same playing it 10 or so years late.

But as for what the OP (and you) were saying about graphics becoming more important than gameplay I do agree that sucks ass. As much as I like a nice looking game I'll take content/gameplay over looks any day.

To each his own. Personally thought, I get bored quickly with Uncharted and CoD (the single player mode at least). They are far too linear, too many cutsenes, load times, and all that exterior junk that detracts from the actual gameplay. I do love Fallout though, I could play that for hours on end without getting bored. I just love the freedom and sense of accomplishment and progression from that game.

I love 2D side scrollers because they are pure fast paced gameplay. They are simple at their core yet could be difficult and complex too. And they have nearly endless replay value.

I believe the reason people get so nostalgic over these games is that they are truly better games.

This generation has produced the overall best crop of games ever. Period.

This 100%

Here's how I buy a game:

I ask myself "Will I really play this game 3 years from now? If so, buy it."

I cannot accept buying a game that I can enjoy for just a few months and never play it again. That's what I feel this generation is full of. There aren't many games that I feel like going back to... which is sad. I still play Unreal Tournament and Diablo ONE till this day for example. Shows where quality is heading (More like artificial replay value).

Yeah. I also hate the 'hardcore' gamers. Those people who think that if a game has cutscenes or a coherent plot, it must have bad gameplay. Or when they think their tastes in games are vastly superior to others. Not that it is bad itself but when they are hypocrits, it gets very annoying. For example "lol fps games suck, brown and grey, mindless shooting, boring -> omg goldeneye ftw"

Or the ones who say sim racers are boring, I'd rather drive my own car. So cute.

This thread is hilarious. Some of you people are blinded by nostalgia.

Its not blinded by nostalgie when you can still pick the games up and play them for hours and hours and find just as much if not more enjoyment in them.
