Forums - Sales Discussion - So when does this incredible Sony 2008 start

Hear it over and over how the PS3 is going to take over in 2008 because of the incredible Software lineup.

So when does this really start. As far as I can tell the first title that is supposed to make PS3's fly off the shelf is MGS4 and hasnt that already been pushed back to late second quarter. So were talking late spring/early summer.

Complete Flamebait, but simple answer that sort of backfires on OP.

First, I expect all three consoles to have good years again...

(although ps3 started out VERY slow, it sure ended with a bang...lol, everyone's ps3 predictions were like 5-6 million in the summer for year end...then they all had to change them to 7-7.5 million...and it's going to even exceed that amount now.)

360 will still dominate for the first part of the year. 360 will have sales advantage of 3:2 for first part of year...(Lost Odyssey)--but Gran Turismo Prologue & Haze will at least stop the 360 from pulling even further ahead and keep that sales ratio around 3:2...

PS3 will start to catch up with the release of MGS4 & Metal Gear Online...and with the release of Home, Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo 5, White Knight Story (First true Next Gen RPG (Level-5) WILL attract some people), Killzone 2, Motorstorm 2, and Resistance 2 to name a few. I expect these titles to start around early summer and spread themselves out until the holiday (big-time release every 2-4 weeks)....With these, hardware should pull EVEN with the 360...1:1 for Holdiay 08'....lol, my prediction.

Well, I now only have access to a PS3 & 360...Plan on buying a wii soon (lol, if I can ever find one available!) but will probably wait until some of the major RPG's come out like Dragon Quest & Tales, etc.

Anyhow, I'm so far behind in games to play that I'm not in a huge hurry (lol, haven't even gotten a chance to finish God of War II yet!)

Im saying sales wont drop to hard from the holidays and hardware will be very high compared to last year for the ps3.

So you think PS3 will remain where it is despite it having performed like pretty much every system in the past which tends to drop off after Christmas and the Wii which has sold better then pretty much every system in the past and broken all the standard rules as far as sales will suddenly die and stop selling well and just do normal numbers? Hmmm... Edit: I'm gonna add MGS has no firm date so don't call it a firm release please it might be pushed against stranger things have happened.

@leoj,

What range do you expect PS3 WW hardware sales to be at on a weekly basis for January through March? Keep in mind that traditionally the first and second week of January is still up a bit from holidays and things settle into normal for the low seasons by week 3. I'm just curious what you expect the average for those weeks to be..your sig says that there won't be any weeks below 120k so I am expecting your average to be higher than that obviously.

That would mean the PS3 got almost no Christmas boost. That seems... unlikely at best. I'm not even sure that would be a good thing, because it would show that there isn't an extended audience for it.

Are the Burnout paradise games really "big" games? I guess I just don't "get" racing games at all.

January - Buronout or Haze will take off.

Isn't Burnout also coming out for the 360? And my guess would be it will sell better on the 360, as well.

Don't know about Haze, either. It's a new IP in a crowded genre.

To be fair it looks different. I mean the story mode sounds like a bore. The "Twist" isn't so much a twist but exactly what you would expect. But apparently the two sides play radically differently. Though I do have balancing concerns. The Corporite side sounds like it'll be overpowered if they play it smart. (IE Put a couple bullets into anyone who is "playing dead.") Also, the rebels using throwing knives on the fully armored guys seems a bit suspect.

Burnouts 360 as well, but I expect better attach rates than the 360 as has been the case in recent months.

I imagine burnout on the PS3 will fare much better than the 360 version in others after seeing what Need for speed has done.

Should be a good start to the year with Haze, Burnout and DMC4. Not sure if im gonna pick up haze yet...4 player co-op sounds preeetty sweet though.

The weaker system total sales wise is pretty much ALWAYS going to when the attach rate war in comparison toa single game. It's because with the more consoles you sell the more diverse your base is. So the smaller system should always win this unless the game just clearly misses it's base.

Burnout 3 sold over 2M (about 1.1M in Europe and 0.9 in NA). They are not huge but I like them ;)
