this kind of news is absolutely useless without a video.

my laptop runs Crysis too, albit 1 frame per second.

Mercenaries 3D already recycles RE5 assets, so you already have a good idea how RE5 on 3DS would look.  In fact, Mercenaries 3D was likely born out of experiments with porting RE5's assets.... perhaps we'll also see a similar multiplayer/competitive focused Lost Planet game for NGP?

I'd also keep in mind that RE5 wasn't exactly the most impressive looking MT Framework title, and actually even already had a "low end" version running for the split screen multiplayer.  A decent conversion could definitely be done for 3DS, the only real issue for Wii was the shaders (HDR especially) and 3DS already circumvents that.

And slightly off topic, but Crytek actually said they were interested in bringing CryEngine to 3DS.  :P

Im one of those people that got spoiled by the RE4 Wii controls. I cant play RE5 because of this haha (More like I refuse to play it).

I've heard move controls for RE5 come close to RE4 Wii settings and plays really good.

Too bad the only 2 guys that I know with move only have the free demo that comes with it and nothing else. No RE5, otherwise I would give it a 2nd try.

I have Move and RE5, controls are absolute shit.  There are many problems with it, from minor things like bad button mapping to others more important things like camera control being lost or losing sidestepping abilties.

Then are absolute horrid crap that totally breaks the aiming and makes Move use worthless, like the fact the aim recalibates to centre screen evertime you press aim instead of keeping a calibrated target.  So if aim to the bottom left of the screen then press the aim button, where you in your room are aiming bottom left of the TV your character is aiming centre screen, now imagine you need shoot something in the lower left of the screen, not gonna happen.

As to why Wii cannot run RE5, large areas, Sheva AI (which most people just dunno how to use so call crap ignorantly), enemy count, enemy AI (which like Sheva most people call crap but obviously never cranked up the difficulty and played very far into the game, because they flank, retreat, alert others and so forth), the online etc etc.

Oh but hey 'graphics' is apparently the only difference between RE4 and 5.

More reason for me not to even consider getting this game. Ever :P.

Yeah conspiracy, Capcom out to make an example so do not have to make anymore games for the Wii, it isn't just that the Wii cannot do them well or even at all, Capcom even willing to lose money to do make this sabotage happen.  Lets ignore MH3 that was design for Wii so will be decent on it.

This is Capcom, they love to port.  If they could have they would have.

I don't think it was sabotage or any conspiracy, just unfortunate decision making.

Capcom even said after seeing Cavia's work with DSC (with it's high quality models, widespread bump mapping, specular highlights and prebaked HDR), maybe a Wii version of RE5 could've been possible after all.  At that point it was obviously too late though, it's always easy to retroactively say they should've done something but at the time things just worked out differently.

Yeah it is good to see Capcom attempt to market DSC worked on some people.

Here's the quote from Capcom USA Product Manager Matt Dahlgren...

“At Resident Evil 5’s launch it was announced that a Wii version was not technically possible. But after some of the work that Cavia has done (with Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles), the producers of Resident Evil 5 over in Japan now think it is possible. Some of the light effects in the South America stage are pretty incredible. Whether it is going to come, I don’t know the answer to that question. But, it has been said that now at least it is possible.”

... seems less like an "attempt to market DSC" and more like a leading comment towards RE5 Wii (which Capcom USA PR was being routinely badgered over, along with SF4 Wii).  I doubt that happens though, not at this point.

Yeah Capcom played you good and proper.  Earlier quotes from him

"I don’t think Resident Evil 5 would transition well onto the Wii. This is our first time moving the franchise onto next generation consoles so this is our Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 debut and a lot of the focus with the developers was pushing that hardware as far as they could possibly take it. Some of our main points in the game are online co-op, absolutely amazing graphics, and the capabilities of the AI and the sheer number of enemies that can be on the screen at the same time."

Oh but two weeks before DSC releases (not months before when already knew how it looked) and suddenly he says DSC looks so good maybe even RE5 could be done too?  This is PR for DSC plain and simple.

because you tell it? It hurts your ego that RE5 could run on the Wii?

LOL, the hate this tiny little console gets after 5 years, still....

I don't get the point of this discussion.  All portables are capable of doing a "version" of any game.

I think they meant a version that actually resembles the source game... even though the source game's look (look, not the entire game) was just a beefed up version of a GC game.

Nope what they mean is that 3DS has support for all the DirectX/ Opengl extensions needed to run source code of RE5.

Um, how do you know they mean that? That's an honest question. Where in the quotes is the indication that is what they mean?

The Pica200 GPU is still fixed function, muchlike the Wii's TEV, but it has many fixed shader extensions that work like Direct3D 9.

It's designed to trick developers into getting used to the Wii system, isn't it?
