What will "The Last Story" sell Week 1 in Japan?

Below 50k 10 3.68%

50-80k 7 2.57%

80-100k 29 10.66%

100-130k 78 28.68%

130-170k 56 20.59%

170k+ 92 33.82%

Total:272

Sakaguchi's latest game is a bit of a wild card, so how do you reckon it'll sell?

Here's some points to remember;

-The pre-orders for this game with 1 week to go are around 65,000

- Blue Dragon, one of his last games, sold 83,086 week 1 with much less hype, only around 20,000 pre-orders on a lesser console in Japan

-The game is getting A LOT of attention, who'd be gutted if it was never localised?

- There is a special bundle with a Wii at launch for those who want the game

Becuase of this, I reckon around 110-120k, maybe even up to 150k! So what do you reckon? Anyone reckon it'll be a flyaway success? Or a terrible flop? And, if it sells well, do you reckon it'll be localised?

I agree with your prediction, but comparing it to lost odyssey is more appropriate. It will be less succesful than previous Sakaguchi works mainly because Nintendo release this kind of game only in Japan and I don't know how well it would sell in America and Europe anyway. Wii userbase isn't very RPG friendly.

Defintly over 100K, judging by the points it has on COMG. Sbout 125,000.

Over 200k

Looks a little high to me. I hope you're right, but what new IP in Japan has even come this close?

(Looks like an idiot when it's 200,001 FW)

It may not be, but the small% of people who have a Wii for this is no doubt lager than all tose who own a 360 in Japan!

Also, the Japanese markets are different to the western markets. Lots of "hardcore" games (Tri, Tales, Xenoblade) do quite well over there. Hence the prediction

120k - 130k

Anything over 150k I have a little trouble believing.

Yeah, I agree

But, it's an unknown quantity. And pre-orders will end up around 90k I reckon, and with the bundle as well...

MAY push it close to it. But look at my truly awesome prediction thread, and you'll see many expect it to be as low as 65-80k!

Regarding the "current Wii non-friendly rpg userbase" which is true I would like to remember that when the platform  was in its prime (2007 to mid 2008) a shitty Dragon Quest spin off managed to sell 500k units. A cheap Tales of Symphonia  spin off sold over 200k, Fire Emblem 170k which is almost the same that they use to sell on NDS, Shiren 3 100k and outsold by a wide margin the PSP port that bombed hard, and also outsold Shiren 4 and 5 for NDS and finally Chocobo's Dungeon sold 100k too.

Then we know the rest of the story, third party companies abandoned the platform and all momentum was lost forever ...
