Forums - Sales Discussion - Looks like GT5's sales performance is making a lot of haters silent..

It's performed quite well, a good deal ahead of many predictions overall. Of course people will say the holiday played an essential role, which is partially the case. Yes, the holiday push kept the awareness flowing, and post-release marketing surely hit the spot. But on the flipside, holidays or not, an undesired product is an undesired product. If the game wasn't a hot item (something many want), it would not sell much. In fact, seems like the game has gone through quite the moving of the goalposts lately:

- Some said the few lower-than-80 reviews would hurt it.

- Some said it's much lower userbase would hurt it.

- Some said the market is too interested in the FPS, thus that would hurt it.

- Some now even put it next to Modern Warfare 2 and/or Black Ops to judge it's sales potential.

One thing can't be denied, it did perform much lower than many predictions in Japan, the result was disappointing. But really, GT is still huge, and not much could change that. If it wasn't hailed as the best racing sim on consoles (what it truly set out to do), then I could understand the doubt. But with it being (according to many - including the same reviews people thought would seal the deal in a negative way) the complete opposite, I think it will continue to sell strong. It's looking at ending 2010 just a tad shy of 5 million (4.8-4.9mill is my guess).

A franchise that sells 5 million in a month won't just suddenly die off and sell just 6 or 7 million in it's entire life. The game is looking at at least 8-9mill lifetime, but I continue to support the original prediction of 10 million.

10 million easy. 11.5 million more likely.

holiday push my ass. you're right in this cgi.. a game sells 5 million in 1 month, and then 2 million for the rest of its life? a franchise like gt that is known for long legs? lunacy.

you're right too.. whether or not it was released in the holiday season, if people want the damn thing, they will buy the damn thing. if people think its shit, they won't buy it. it's that simple. but the fact is, people are buying it heavily. FPS market? that's such a silly idea. GT is GT, whatever people say about it.

everyone who doubted the gt brand will be sorely disappointed when this goes above and beyond everyone's expectations.

Was there really any need to bring Forza into this?

of course. it was the main competition and the most frequently mentioned "new king of racing". it has to be put back into its place.

No, I mean considering the fact that this is an internet forum filled with lots of kids, this can only act as flamebait. Also, your choice of words wasn't exactly encouraging either.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

This warranted a thread? Really? I never did doubt that GT5 will be the best PS3 exclusive, but I still think it'll have a hard time outselling MW2. As someone had pointed out, this is still a holiday season.. A fair comparison to GT4 would be after both have experienced a year of retail, or at least 10-15 weeks. Seriously, some people jump gun too soon.

Well said.

It's already outselling GT4 in aligned launches:

5 weeks worldwide:

GT5: 4,621,505
GT4: 4,591,879

GT5 is completely destroying GT4 in the past few weeks, despite the weaker first week. I think this happened because a lot of people were confused about the release date, and advertising wasn't able to kick in as early as it was supposed to. In EMEAA, GT5's 5 weeks has already outsold GT4's ten weeks.

I predict that GT5 will go on to outsell GT4 by at least a million. The strong momentum of the game should continue into early 2011, and this is all happening despite a very weak Japanese market. Europe is loving this so much. I think the reason for all this happening is that GT4 was produced at the height of PS2 piracy, and that PS3 piracy is still virtually non-existent.

Anyway, to all the people who thought GT5 would sell "below Forza 3 or GT5 Prologue", "just 5 or 6 million", those people who said "PS3 userbase is too small", "It has bad reviews", "Forza is the new king of racing", "GT is on a decline", blah blah blah blah blah...

(Btw, Forza 3 sales, heavily bundled, over one year later: 4,405,464)

Eat that.

y'now.., you should stop comparing it with any other games.., or something unwanted will come into this thread.., trust me.., you're counter attacking the wrong people in the wrong place..

He's baiting. And what makes it worse? Someone will be stupid enough to take the bait and turn this thread to shitstorm.

How do I know he's baiting? The mention of Forza sales mixed with "Eat that."

How do you know he's baiting?

You took the bait yourself. XD

In any case, people were indeed talking shit about the game prior to its release.  It's only fair to put the cold hard facts in their face, to show how ignorant their trolling was.

The "tone" used may not be the most appropriate, and is probably bordering the lines of the rules, but at the same time, most people who are fans of GT had to go through a lot of crap from insecure members of other allegiances.

You should go make another Kinect thread, right? How many have you made this month along 10, 20, yet you think one GT5 success thread is too much.

This game has done more than I expected in the short term, I see gt games as long term sellers, but 5 milllion in one month is just crazy holiday or not. And it seems UK and Japan has switch side in terms of popularity. Now, I really don't know if it's doing as well in US, as it could be overtracked, but amazing numbers overall.

I didn't take the bait though, he edited in the mention of Forza after my first initial post, which is a bit petty to be honest. He made the thread then ran off looking for Forza sales, lulz, besides what I doubted was it's ability to move significant hardware, doesn't seem that spectacular.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Nsanity is Nsanity, he should continue to make threads that no one cares, or at least few of them are really useful and warranted a thread.
