You obviously haven't been roaming around the Internet enough if you've come to that conclusion. 360 fanboys basically took over every game related site from 2006 to 2008 and they continue to be a nuisance even today. You've just overlooked those fanboys because you have a bias towards a certain console and you agree with many of the things those fanboys may say, the difference is that your both polite and smart enough to keep most of your negativity to yourself. I can level that same accusation to any Nintendo or Sony appreciator. But when someone claims that one group of idiots is worse than another, then it makes you look a little silly. It's so weird how people forget the Oblivion, Bioshock and Mass Effect 2 reactions that came up when they went multi-platform, but they are quick to bring up the Final Fantasy reaction. It's weird how people bring up how Killzone 2, GT5, MGS4 and Little Big Planet are over hyped, but for some reason they forget the hype that came before Halo 3, Alan Wake, Gears of War 2, Too Human and Kinect. Nintendo fans are also far from civil, they just don't have the forum userbase to make as big of an impact. They trash nearly every website when a low review is given, they have some weird hate for analyst and they would defend anything Nintendo did, even if the company clearly made a mistake. Don't be the guy who always points fingers at specific groups, without taking the actions of every other group into consideration. 360 fan boys have been just as bad in the past and just because you turn a blind eye towards them, it doesn't mean that you can point the finger at someone else. |
Accusation of bias. I have stated this before, between the NES, SNES, N64, PS1, and PS2 I have spent over 20 years gaming on Sony and Nintendo consoles alone. I never owned an Xbox and I just picked up my 360 two years ago. To say I have bias when I am just pointing out the obvious of Gran Turismo 5 being hyped to unheard levels is quite absurd in my opinion.
Concerning Oblivion, Bioshock and Mass Effect 2, the vitriol is well justified. How many Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, God of War, and Uncharted games have 360 owners been able to play on their 360? Zero zlich none. A one way street, but life is not fair and publishers want to make money.
As for the hype on any game, be it 360, PS3 or Wii, hype is hype and it needs a response, eventhough many dedicated users of the particular game willl scream flame or bias. When Gears of War 3 comes close to release, I will be in those threads trying my best to even out the hype with honest feedback.
I don't take responsibility for what other console users write to inflame the console wars debate. The expectation for each critic of a particular game to treat all games the same is unfair and unrealistic. This is the same expectation leveled at journalism where we expect all journalists to be robots reporting the facts, while we deny that their personal beliefs, political leaning, and upbringing has a far greater influence on their reporting of an event. Even with a code of journalistic ethics where each journalist was inculcated to follow it like dogma there would still be bias to the extent where we would still have right leaning news, left leaning news, and left leaning news parading around as moderate.
We all have a set of eyes with which we view the world greatly influenced by our upbringing, personal beliefs, and political views. Adherence to some sort of code of fairness would still not blunt this to the effect where each opinion on an issue is fair. Our "view" would still leak out causing others to accuse bias.
For this reason, I see no point in parading around and trying my best to be "fair." Fairness would mean no personal beliefs, upbringing, or political views. Hell, even robots could not be "fair" because the codes they run off of would still include the biases of the creator of their codes in the way they would react to complex situations requiring more than just moving a limb up or down.
