A Japanese blog has totaled up the PlayStation 3's top five software sales after five months on the shelves, and NeoGAF posters jumped in to compare them to the PSP and GameCube. The results... will shock you. Not really:

PS3:

  1. Gundam Musou - 230,000
  2. Ridge Racer 7 - 130,000
  3. Gundam Target in Sight - 130,000
  4. Resistance: Jinrui Botsuraku no Hi - 120,000
  5. Armored Core 4 - 80,000

GameCube:

  1. Super Smash Bros. DX - 1,022,000
  2. Pikmin - 430,000
  3. Animal Crossing - 355,000
  4. Luigi's Mansion - 320,000
  5. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle - 116,000

PSP:

  1. Minna no Golf Portable - 351,000
  2. Shin Sangoku Musou - 262,000

To be fair, on the GC 3 of the 5 could be considered "killer apps" for one reason or another.

 

Super Smash brothers obviously

Animal Crossing for the free memory card

Luigis mansion for being the first Luigi Game

OK, you got the point. But shouldn't Gundam Musou be killer apps too?

Well Resistance and Ridge Racer 7 could be considered killer apps as well.  And everybody knows Luigi's Mansion wasn't that great, even at GC's release that was agreed upon.

I thought Luigi's Mansion was a lot of fun, but I definitely wouldn't call it a blockbuster. :)

unimportant because the games are selling better regardless.

 

 I swear it could be announced that the PS3 is being discontinued and you'd say "well it's a collectors item now"

 What?  The fact that they are 1st party games has nothing to do with this discussion, except maybe that they are better games.  Not our fault GC had better launch games...
