Forums - Microsoft Discussion - KInect starting to sell out online!

Nice to see the current userbase supporting Kinect, a far cry from what they all originally thought (That Kinect won't be successful with the core/current userbase)

I STILL havn't pre ordered!

stop trolling carl, the purpose of kinect is not to sell consoles, these are irrelevant

I disagree.  Kinect's purpose is to sell more consoles. Current Xbox 360 owners (going by online sites) would have been perfectly happy for MS to stick with what they were doing.  Now if the standalone units are selling out to the current core crowd then that just bodes well for the more casual audience as well.  I for one believe MS plans to use more of the manufactured Kinect's in bundles rather than standalone.  I would think 2 or 3 to 1.

Of course MS wants to sell more consoles. And Kinect should cause a considerable bump in console sales combined with the remodeled box. But the standalone selling well is also a good thing. Its great for the devs too. The more of them that are out there the better a position these companies will be in to turn a profit.

Microsoft stated plenty of time that the sole purpose of kinect is to turn core gamers into casual gamers, so they don't have to make big expensive games anymore, and the fact that kinect is sold out but not the bundle prove that they are succeeding.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Looking at those links Amazon still has Kinects in stock...

Im not really sure of what this means in any meaningful way. Since we don't have stock numbers we cannot really say how many Kinect modules that were shipped and imply the sold numbers from that. Its very easy to do a soft launch and then instantly sell out of all of the limited quantities of stock. However on the other hand if the launch is a hard launch with ample supply then it is also very easy to not go out of stock whilst selling millions of modules and bundles.

All we have are indications of strong demand, so obviously you take take heart in that. What we don't have is anything remotely like proof. Even a Brett comment at this juncture would be more useful because thats based on actual data even if it is incomplete at this point.

Tease.

This site is about sales and numbers. Given the lack of numbers at this time, sales performance is best represented by how vendors are faring. So yes I would say it is worthwhile to check online retailers when related to sales speculation. That's what people do here.

I've been on this site for 3 years, so I think I have an accurate idea of what people do here.

Online retailers represent nothing. They show absolutely nothing of how the product is faring. We don't know the stock of the item in question, so it's almost pointless to speculate.

This isn't really true. Online retailers represent how well the product is moving online. The problem starts when people take those online retailers success and say it applies to the whole world/country. Titles like Disgaea 3 can easily jump to the #1 spot on amazon due to a deal of the day, while the real world performance can still really suck. Online sales generally aren't a good representation of what the rest of the world is doing but they are perfectly fine for representing the online portion of the market. So long as people understand that everything is fine.

A lot of hate in this thread.  Mind you there seems to be a lot of hate for any thread that seems positive for 360.

Kowenicki has at least looked at several sites and backed that up with links.  It's not like he's saying I walked into my local Toys 'R' us and it was sold out therefore sales are massive.  Don't forget VGChartz bases it's estimates on samples as well, and we all rely on this site to check how the consoles are doing.

Going by Microsoft's projections and this early information I expect Kinect to sell well.

We don't have long to wait to see how it all pans out, but it's nice to see some early confirmation of how sales are going.

Agreed.

Sad how some are really fighting any potential of success for Kinect.  Even sadder that they can't realize why they are doing it . . .

Amazon has them in stock, and i dont think walmart even offers the standard $150 online do they?

I haven't seen the 149 on walmart yet and it does look like walmart and amazon are back in stock of the stand alone units
