I'm more interested in Blizzard DOTA.

May I ask why?  Unless they have recruited help, Blizzard have absolutely no experience in this genre.

Blizz is doing a SC dota :P not a wc dota so meh. Its really they don't have a good item system in WC2 so yea..

Well, Icefrog, the original creator of DOTA is currently working with Valve to create DOTA2, so Blizzard really have no experience with DOTA whatsoever.

Also, i'm curious. In what way the current item system in WC3 (DOTA is not on WC2) is bad?

I meant SC2 :P

I guess you haven't seen just how powerful the editor is in SC2 I have seen a map with WC3s item system pretty much exactly, the UI is entirely modable and the item effects can be added. If some random people can do that in a couple months I think blizzard should be able to do it.

Actually, DOTA took almost 2-3 years of tweaking both with Eul's version of Starcraft's Aeon Strife map and Guinsoo's original DOTA version.

It wasn't only until Icefog took on the project (I correct my previous statement, I said that Icefrog was the original creator, he wasn't), that DOTA took the shape that we know of today.

Blizzard may have the talent to pull a similar DOTA structure for SC2, but I have my reservations regarding how well they can balance it and give it a competitive edge. Also, SC2 has no LAN abilities, which is one of the (if not the most) important features of WC3 and DOTA as well, without it, DOTA wouldn't have had the impact and success it had.

Heck, even while most matches that I play today are on Garena, I always put up a LAN with a couple of friends at college, and we do a 5 vs 5 over at 6.67b Aiplus Rev2d or 2 vs 2 / 3 vs 3 in 6.69b

That's one of the advantages that Valve will have over Blizzard when it comes to DOTA2, since it will mantain all of the original structures of DOTA (including LAN capacities), and adding new, important features, such as the coaching system, allowing for better integration of new players into the DOTA universe (current new players going into DOTA are bashed like they are the proverbial plague).

Plus, instead of using the assets of an engine that wasn't build up for DOTA gameplay, Valve is actually upgrading Source and building up the mechanics and assets from scratch to perfectly match DOTA, while adding new things, like the physics-affecting engine (I would love to see the effect of the physics engine on ranged characters such as Traxxex, Sniper, Huskar or Windrunner). In counterpart, Blizzard's effort is still using SC2's assets, thus they have to work with the boundaries that are already there.

I was addressing the item system in my post that was all.

Blizzard will probably have far fewer heroes than dota and a team of people working on it yet still I doubt it will rival a true dedicated MOBA but that's not the point.

BTW has LAN been confirmed for DOTA 2? As far as I can tell it will be online only and that LAN will be much like SC2 as in connected to the Internet and the server.
