Belief that this is a mobile phone, as we know them to be, is silly. I know we ain't meant to call people's views silly, but I don't care. A mobile phone is synonymous with cellular phone. To claim that there was a network of mobile phone towers in 1928 is just incorrect.

Belief that this is a mobile communication device of some sort, is however slightly more reasonable.

However, to believe this, we must accept that humanity, or humanoid aliens have developed

* Time travel

* Mobile Communication devices capable of communication over large enough range to make towers unnecessary. This is a more advanced claim than it might seem. It involves the development of an energy generation or energy storage method completely unknown to us, and thousands of times better than that used today.

However, we are still using the form factor of mobile phones, and they are still of size they currently are. 

The earliest I could see the first two claims occurring is 100 years from now. The latest I would predict for the change in mobile phone form factor is about 25 years.

Occam's Razor, people.

That's not it. I think the first portable hearing aid that would be held up to your face, and looked like what she has, was in 1938. The Siemens thing is connected to a cable, and then a much larger box.

The best thing you could buy in that day and age, was the radioear, and it was not what's in that photo.

I watched the video, and if I recall it was from deleted scenes right? It was also a silent film, so people could yell anything they wanted. It could be nothing more then a director (man or woman) barking out timing info to people off camera or about to be on camera. He/She could be holding something (or nothing) up to there face to try and block out the fact they they are giving commands of some sort.

Once they got to editing, they realized you could tell they were talking, thus they cut it from the film. No clue if that's what this is, but it goes way up on the list, long before you get to time traveling.

Silly and stupid "rationalizations" even if Siemens hearing aid or "barking stunt coordinator" are legitimate, solid options. But this person (dressed like woman looks like man) is talking (not singing or barking) to someone via some device. This is not a mobile phone, or cellular phone device in modern technical sense - there were no batteries, or signal transmitting stations, cities of today are covered all over. And there is more improbabilities by technical or technological nature. So what is it? There was more intriguing details, the first radio network for Police department needs become operating, in range of 60 miles in City of Detroit in the very same year - 1928! My ques is we need to dig deeper and answer will pop out from some forgotten corner in the shape of some innovative, but short living device, one of many "ingenious modern time inventions" period, between XX century two World Wars (moveis itself as a technical invention are best example of the "fast changing times"). Person in question wearing, in my opinion, expensive clothing but lacking elegance of any kind (the main reason I think she is "he") with hat intentionally adjusted to cover great part of face including eyes in total. All such details, together with hand in, as we from our present day experience could describe as "mobile phone carrying position", talking - moving lips and surprising or "wrong" context for this scene as a whole, is more than enoguh to create mind confusion or insecurity about what we really see. But there is no doubt, just in few days time someone smarter than I'm will find the right combination of facts & factors "guilty" of creating such confusion among many viewers from last year of first decade of century XXI.

I was able to read her lips.  She said "Al, what does Ziggy say I have to do to leap outta here?"  What the hell does that mean?
