That's not it. I think the first portable hearing aid that would be held up to your face, and looked like what she has, was in 1938. The Siemens thing is connected to a cable, and then a much larger box.
The best thing you could buy in that day and age, was the radioear, and it was not what's in that photo.
I watched the video, and if I recall it was from deleted scenes right? It was also a silent film, so people could yell anything they wanted. It could be nothing more then a director (man or woman) barking out timing info to people off camera or about to be on camera. He/She could be holding something (or nothing) up to there face to try and block out the fact they they are giving commands of some sort.
Once they got to editing, they realized you could tell they were talking, thus they cut it from the film. No clue if that's what this is, but it goes way up on the list, long before you get to time traveling.
