i predict the next gen sony home console 2 years after psp2 launch

2014 imo

so PS3 is 7 years old

I wish but I fully expect the next playstation console by 2013.  Nintendo WILL launch a new console in 2012 and MS very well might too.  If so I doubt Sony would want to launch a full two years later 2014.  To me that would spell very bad business for them by giving the competitors such a big head start.

However if MS delays the next box till 2014 then you could be right but I just don't see that happening.  To me MS Nextbox between holiday 2012 and early 2013 and the next Sony system within 6 months of that.

I'm really baffled by the touchpad on the back. Why not just give it a normal touchscreen display? Companies like Apple and Samsung don't seem to have any trouble producing HD-quality touchscreens for their smartphones - hell, neither does Sony Ericsson. This is a serious, almost crippling issue for me. If I can't use it as a replacement for an iPod Touch/iPad when it comes to email and the like then I'm not going to buy it.

I think Sony will ride out PS3 and not launch PS4 until MS launches XB3.  They won't want to give them a year headstart like this gen, considering how disastrous it'd turned out.  And really, XB3 depends on how well Kinect does I think... if it flops, we'll see XB3 in 2012.  If it's a big success, it may push XB3 back as far as 2014-2015 even.

Wii 2 will likely be around PS3-plus spec (as 3DS is PSP-plus spec), so that gives them some breathing room no matter when it launches.  The only worry there is if Wii 2 & 360 mulitplatform R&D start crowding PS3 out for ports, like what happened with GameCube last gen (3's a crowd).

Why would you buy a gaming device for email?

Social gaming and messaging are important factors in portable devices.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Now I just wonder if the GPU's SGX or Tegra?

...and more importantly, the software available.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Neither of which you need email for

Probably lots and lots of UE3 games. ;)

"Why would you buy a gaming device for email?"

Where have you been for the last few years? Because it doesn't make sense to carry around two different devices when I could very easily carry around one that performs both of their functions.

"Neither of which you need email for"

Both of which you need a real keyboard for.

True, but if you value games wouldn't that be enough?  The DS seems to do fine.  The PSP got be bridging a gap.  Who knows, this specualtion is silly.  We know too little. Their intentions, anything.
