Forums - Gaming Discussion - My Theory on why COD may always be popular

Why do people bitch about games?

Answer: Because they think they know better than everyone else and they want to show that it is their opinion which should rule.

Sad as it may sound COD may remain popular until an extremely bad cod is released or something better and popular replaces it.

Here is my Theory on why people play games like MW2:

MW2 isn't great nor is it Bad its a below average shooter riddled with game breaking issues and game balance issues everywhere. But why is there so many people playing online??

The reason is Simple: Because everyone else does, check your friends lists(PS3,360) you have an high chance that there is someone playing MW2.

The facts are is that because everyone plays it makes them put up with the issues and flaws because they want to play what there friends are. The only way to stop is too all think all at around the same time this game sucks. And thats what happened to me and my friends playing it. We got 2 months in after playing months of WAW, and i had enough and said this game sucked and sold it for BFBC2 and while they  till played  until they relied that it sucked and dont play no more.

But not everyone is going to do that especially the ones who dont understand whats bad and that there are much less frustrating and more enjoyable experiences. i guarantee that if you go into any game there would be one person that thinks this game sucks hard and they only play it because all there friends do.

So the only way COD is going to go away is there to be such an bad game that everyone hates it and i mean Worst than MW2 that the issues are more present then the gamebreaking ones.

But for the sake of gaming its self i hope this dies by next year because the FPS market is suffering and gaming its self because its tricking developers to make half ass games like MW2 but when they do they fail. most hope depends on Battlefield 3, or Activison f'ing up like they have done with most of there franchises

I don't understand why everyone says mw2 is a below average shooter. It's a package that works by the book that people want (as inspired by Halo), and that the majority of the mainstream society demand. No lag, single, multi, and coop play, and nearly instant matchmaking. I played every CoD, besides the first, and the third. I've owned cod4 for 360, waw and mw2 for ps3, and I have no complaints but that the game gets old quickly(just a personal opinion). I'm not going to purchase any more CoD games, because personally, I'm tired of the textbook experience. It's cool and all, but only for the first three times, and not to mention, IW is out.

On topic, the mainstream buys/receives as a gift, 1-2 games a year. Of those, they want a game to enjoy that has a familiar name, and that they can enjoy with their friends.New CoD every year, advertisements on TV and billboards at the right holiday time, guess what, you know that their latest copypasta is coming out. It's a growing force that adults 40 will even enjoy. At this point, you cannot stop it, its a brand name. They'll never stop making them, as they'll never stop making Final Fantasy games, or Mario reboots. It's pathetic imo. But, it's business, bros.

Off topic, how is it unbalanced? All guns do roughly the same damage, and you don't even have a health meter, so wtf?

Are you sure about that?

The only way I see MW dying is if Wada takes over Activision or Bobby Kotick renounces Satan and loses his demonic powers.

I dont think that there is any game ive ever played online thats lag free, especailly FPSs the closest ive seen is Uncharted 2

MW 2, and these new COD games sell better now because of the new generation of kids borin from 98 and onwards buying the game. Some M rated game..

Using a 20mbps dl/5mbps ul broadband connection,  yeah I'm sure that I have no lag in cod. The game has practically have no loading times, let's just say, compared to Halo.

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.
Proud pre-orderer of 2 PS4's and an Xbox One.

Currently Playing: Dark Souls II, South Park
Playstation 4: MGS V GZ, Killzone: Shadow Fall, NBA 2k14.

blah blah blah I skipped to the end after almost every post was a variation of "it's a no skill, hollow, unrealistic, piece-o-shit game".

Ok maybe its not 100% realistic, or you don't have to lead your target, or the points go up by 100 instead of just 1, but how does any of that mean its not fun?

People (casuals especially) play games for fun.  I know crazy concept right?

COD is an fun and addictive shooter.  People love unlocking things, and COD is really good at making sure you get points or weapons or icons for each little thing you do.

I guess in conclusion, I want to say that games are played for entertainment value (aka fun) and while COD may not be super innovative or super realistic, it does a really good job at being fun.

And fun things tend to be popular.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

War is simple shoot and kill the enemy before they kill you. Run around and shoot everything in sight, so long it is not your own team mates. If it moves, shoot it and never ask questions. Survival in a real combat zone is based on training, instinct, skill, experience and a high level of luck.

There is a  huge difference between reality and fiction. Violent video games are harmless fun.

Call of Duty and popular war games appeals to beginners and casual gamers. In reality you are not getting back up or recharging your health by ducking for cover. One or two bullets to the right area and well you are dead or incapacitated. Some of these fantasy war video games: you can take 40 bullets and still running around like you have not even been hurt.

Call of Duty games and other war games sell well because they are military training simulators. Government and games developers work together to promote pro-War propaganda and recruit young people into the military. Video games hook kids/young adults i.e. impressionable young people into accepting violence is normal.  Violent video games desensitise people and condition them into being more violent and aggressive. Gambling addictions and other addictions can be linked to video game addictions.

Military Recruiter: So Jimmy boy why do you want to fight and die for America?

Jimmy boy: I have a huge interest in military and I love my country. I have played a lot of Call of Duty and various other war video games including Halo: Reach and Killzone 2.

Military Recruiter: Great answer son. You are hired. Now go and get your uniform, boots and take up a gun and shoot some targets. The plane for Iraq leaves first thing tomorrow morning.

Jimmy boy: Yes sir! Understood sir.

Try playing it with a regular router then.

Though I am not a FPS expert nor a fan of the genre, and even though at some point I started to hate how HD hardcore gaming became synonim of FPS and warfare games, I personally think Modern Warfare 2 is an outstanding game, very fun to play and very spectacular.
