Bioshock which many people are currently arguing is better than Halo 3 (which many claim is the best in the series) is a carbon-copy of System Shock 2 with better graphics ... System Shock 2 was released in 1999, 2 years before Halo was released ...

Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Unreal Tournament, Quake 3 Arena, Deus Ex, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Tribes and System Shock 2 all were far more revolutionary and better than Halo, and each of these games was released years before Halo.

Halo has always had an (odd) dedicated fanbase from Apple fans who were hyping the game several years before it was released, to countless frat-boys and teens who played it as their first FPS and proclaimed it the greatest FPS ever.

Also, Bungie has OTHER GAMES besides Halo. Everyone seems to forget that...

but you are partically wrong, Halo was never meant for Mac or the Xbox and when Bungie was bought out Apple fans wanted and still want Microsoft's blood.

What makes Halo better than other FPS's? Simple. Advertisement. Microsoft is one of the companies that has enough money for mass ad campaign, other companies dont. Everything you find good about Halo, has been done already and better on the PC. This is not bias or some fanboy explanation. Every feature of Halo games can be found and done better on an older PC FPS game. Say something you find awesome about Halo, I'll give you a game where its been done already.

This is why PC gamers find Halo so average. Halo gets advertised, so people who havent played PC FPSs before are like wow thats amazing. And since it is probably their first game, they'll be like oh em gee halo is amazing. when people who have been playing PC FPS for years are like what?

This all being said, Halo 1 and Halo 2 being piles of sh!t, Halo 3 is a good game, and for the CONSOLE FPS genre, it has revolutionized it.

Not according to Wiki:

On July 21, 1999, during the Macworld Conference & Expo, Steve Jobs announced that Halo would be released for Mac OS and Windows simultaneously.[55] Before this public announcement, game industry journalists under a non-disclosure agreement had previewed the game in a private showing during E3 1999,[56] and were reportedly amazed.[55][56] Bungie Studios later stated an even earlier development build of the game centered on real-time strategy and was "basically Myth in a sci-fi universe."[57]

Because Halo is the definition of the word Basic, there's a reason so many people play it, you pick up a gun, point at something in your reticle, and shoot. There is nothing that separates it from any other FPS other than the fact that it DOESN'T have anything unique.

I've played Deus Ex, which had an incredibly deep mechanic system which you could fine tune how your character plays.

I've played Tribes which featured different classes of players, jet packs, huge maps, and an awesome ability called skiing which basically let you slide against terrain without friction slowing you down, which let you gain momentum on hills and stuff. Really hard to explain but totally friggin awesome.

I've played Unreal Tournament, which had some of the coolest weapons I've ever seen in a game :P

I've played Quake which also had some intense matches, very fast paced and again some great weapons and mods.

I've played Battlefield and Codename Eagle which featured some of the greatest vehicular fights I've  ever seen :P

Recently I've gotten major hardcore into Resistance fall of man, which the greatest weapons I've ever had in a video game, every weapon offers you a secondary fire option which gives you a MASSIVE amount of control and strategy on how a particular weapon could be used in a number of different ways.

Then we go over to Halo, which is hailed as god amongst games by frantic 12 year olds, and you can start to see why. The action is VERY basic, you can pick it up and know what to do. It's got a learning curve that a 4 year old can understand. It also happens to have some of the lamest weapons I've ever seen, the development team was incredible large yet they somehow managed to pick the most basic weapons in the world and make them sound like ass. Paired with the terrible audio is the hit response, or lack therefor of, when you shoot into an enemy and you have to plow through there shield, you really lose that feeling of power, your weapons literally feel like toys.

I hyped myself up so much for Halo 3 and I felt that it was one of the saddest experiences I've had in a long time. The story in the 3rd was horrible, the dialogue was un-interesting, and the ending suuuuuuucked. I just for the life of me can't understand why anyone praises this game, it offers NOTHING that I haven't seen before and better. There's a reason so many 12 year olds play it, because they can without needing to have previous skill in FPS's.

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

resistance> halo 3

there are to many weapons that are greatly stronger then another in Halo. The weapons in most games are 100% balanced. If there is an all powerful weapon it's spawn time is insanely long.

Halo pretty much fails in the spectrum of FPS'. Number 1 and 2 were fun games that made the xbox what it was. 3 was milked beyond belief and advertised the hell out of and in the end provided nothing different except improved graphics.

UT and UT2004 will always be my favourite FPS', and hopefully UT3 will translate well to the PS3. If not, im off to buy a decent PC.
