Personally, I find this guy a breath of fresh air in an era of US politics where almost every single politician is concerned about reelection to the point of failing to talk straight and take a stand on the most pressing issues of our time. Chris Christie is unabashedly honest, though I disagree with many of his views I find Chris Christie a great Republican alternative to Obama and any candidate the Democrats have to offer.

So what is your opinion of Chris Christie? Please watch the clips before voting. At least give him a fair shake and not a knee jerk reaction.

Chris Christie is a fucking dumbass and so is his policies, he cut more than half of the education budget, laying off hundreds of teachers and screwing a lot of schools, I live in Newark the biggest city in New Jersey and as of now my former high school sooted only for a maximum of 600 students now has an excess of 800, with junior high grades (5,6,7,8)  now added, why because this fucktard cut the school budget causing the local junior high of the district to CLOSE DOWN, actually kind of upset now I don't have any pictures of the MASSIVE walkout demonstrated  by students and teachers, oh he did all this while simultaneously giving pay raises to himself and everyone under him. oh to add, the budget cuts overcrowded schools while cutting the amount of teachers, some of which I know and are Great teachers ( poor Ms. Kemphf )

Chris Cristie didn't get elected because Obama supporters switched sides, no he got elected because Obama supports didn't vote which I can assure you all come next election his chances of being re-elected are between the chances of slim to none and never gonna happen.

Wasn't New Jersey a state that had among the highest taxes, spending, debts and deficits per capita in the United States before Chris Christie became govenor? Doesn't this mean that the state needed agressive spending cuts to balance the budget before they hit a crisis point? How could the budget deficit going to be reduced to a reasonable level without agressive cuts to education?

I could be wrong, but I believe that Chirs Christie was actually heavily supported because he is the kind of person people seek out to lead when difficut and unpopular decisions have to be made.

New Jersey has the worst state debt-to-person ratio in America by large margins. They were projected to be more than $10 billion in debt for 2011, despite being much smaller than the other states in trouble like Illinois and California.

Here is my question for Evolution:

Knowing that your state has an annual budget shortfall of over $11.7 billion USD in 2011, and its a deficit that MUST be fixed, or go into bankruptcy, what would you cut, and where? Give exact examples on how you would of cut it where Christie did not.

From an outsider (Ohioan) view, Christie is fantastic. He's not popular with some people, but he is doing what absolutely must be done to reform the worst state in America. It is going to be hard, because he's having to weed out decades of corruption and bad practices, which are making people mad. However, if he did not do it now, 10-20 years from now, New Jersey would of gone the Greek route and went into insolvency. At that point, people would be far, FAR worse off.

Aggressive cuts to health, education, public service job cuts. Tories increase taxes on the lower and middle income classes who pay for the rich and business tax breaks and concessions. Republican Tea Party = cynical politics driven economic ideologue stooges. Chris Christies is a conservative stooge with a bitter cold axe to grind against the low to middle class. Tories/Republicans only serve the rich corporate elites and powerful interest groups driven by neo-liberal ideology as free market fundamentalism. 

Tories shaft the young, poor and working classes to please the business/firm owners and rich elites. Republicans are right wing extremists pushing their politics to comply with their Victorian 19th century conservative Christian views on society. Tories encourage wage freezes or wage reductions on lower classes to increase the bottom line for the rich business/firm owners.

So, being that New Jersey already had one of the highest tax rates in the country and had the largest debt and deficit in the country, where should they have gotten the money from to balance the budget?

Increasing taxes on the wealthy will only result in the wealthy increasing their gross income, avoiding taxes through loopholes, passing on the costs, or moving out of the region (capital flight); increasing taxes on businesses will only result in New Jersey being at a competitive disadvantage, and businesses (and jobs) leaving the region to more business friendly regions; increasing taxes on the middle class will only result in decreased economic activity as people can afford to buy less or leave the state.

This leaves cutting spending ... From my understanding of American State finances, the vast majority of spending is on education and social spending; and this means that education and social spending need to see significant cuts.

You might want to maintain your belief that this government spending translates to increased economic activity which justifies the spending, but the current position of states like California and New Jersey would indicate the opposite.
