FPS are not my thing...actually is my least favorite genre after RTS, but this game is making a serious case for winning my reluctant approval. The thing is not ONE FPS packs enough satisfaction for me in the single player campaign. None. I don't like FPS multiplayer, actually I think FPS gameplay in general is a piece of the same regurgitated crap. The FPS games I liked "the most" (and you will judge me for this, but oh well) is Resistance, and it was just for the story and setting.
I wouldn't score a single player campaign for any current-gen FPS higher than 7.Killzone 2 for me was pretty, intense, very visceral experience and I really felt I was in the middle of a real battlefield with all the animations, explosions and graphics. Call of Duty MW has some cinematic feel to it, but most of the action feels like cardboard cartoony crap. Halo feels too cartoony for my taste too. But the thing is no matter how splendid they play, they are just too short, too repetitive, too much "I've played this game before". I saw a guy play through almost all of Crysis, and while the graphics were very photorealistic (although not so real in the physics), that game was just a major bore. The characters, story and setting were crap, too. It played more like a tech demo than a game, honestly.
After KZ2 I know I can't expect much in terms of story from part 3. It will most likely be another piece of crap. But what I'm really digging this time is the setting and the action. The battle looks more frenetic than before and I like what they're doing with the melee attacks. What I've seen of the MP, with the melee, the jetpacks and mechs into action looks like it could be something I could get into. I'm not sure and I wouldn't put it on my list, yet, but the gameplay is looking like something with real meat in it and the MP won't probably be a bore because of all the variety thrown into it.
