So they look at what you have installed too?

None too happy about that. I almost always turn off any "survey" crap that comes on software but I am not sure if I have done that for Steam or not.

Edit: Taht said it seems people who use Steam are predominatly idiots. How else do you explain so many people using that piece of shit Acrobat Reader?

Acrobat and Silverlight seem too popular. There's Flash so you don't need Silverlight, and there are tons of better alternatives for Acrobat.

I suppose Silverlight's so popular because anywhere it's used, there's a huge ad tellling you to download it. I guess most don't understand what it is, and many of those who do, simply don't care. I still don't have Silverlight and never will. I don't like Flash either but it's used so widely it would be hard without it. I'm still waiting for HTML5, though, and hoping it will replace Flash. But I suppose it's not going to happen.

DX10-enabled OS seems to be popular today. Maybe Valve is waiting for DX9 to die before releasing Episode 3. /joke

Also, why is IE at just 19.82%? It comes with every edition of Windows and still is the most popular browser.

the software survey is rather interesting, but I think it's rather skewed by the fact that it is opt in. Still some things are just odd like the number of people with Internet Explorer, it should be much higher than it is as all windows has it, I mean to remove it would mean that the Steam store wouldn't work as from what I know at least on windows steam's browser is powered by IE. Which leads me to believe that the results are not accurate. Or that IE is just one version of IE or something.

Nvidia GTX 200s cards coupled together are at 7,39% for those who want to know.

Actually Steam was updated with a new layout engine, namely WebKit. No more IE in Steam. I think it happened earlier this year.

oh I knew they did it for Mac but I didn't realise they had already updated the PC version...

Yup, it was in beta for a while, but I believe they released the new layout for everyone right around the time they officially released Steam for Macs.
