If it didn't exist, I would've missed out on one of the greatest single-player experiences ever (Halo: CE), and an enjoyable multiplayer (though I have played better games in the online side, both on PC and on consoles). But then again, multiplayer gaming on consoles wouldn't be what it is today either.
There is only one criticism I have about the game's impact on the industry, but I'd rather keep it to myself because it's a rather controversial topic.
Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!
Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

FPS's would be nothing without Halo...It really is a masterpiece of a game.....and the fact that so many people have had TONS of fun due to Halo and what came from it means the gaming world would have been much worse without it.

FPS games have been around a long time before halo, and at a much higher quality. FPS games have gone way downhill because there is no reason to try and make quality when people will just eat the same garbage over and over again. And if you truly think this i suggest you go out some older fps games that did what halo did better and earlier.

I don't think FPS games have gone downhill, games like Halo Reach, Half-Life 2, COD4, Killzone 2 and others are a testament to this.
And to my knowledge there aren't any FPS games that did everything that Halo did...I know there are a bunch that did parts of what Halo did but not as a whole package.

Nope because those copy cats subsequently died down. The console shooter genre has grown substantially from having a single 5M franchise on consoles to having two 10M selling franchises and multiple 5M selling franchises. The shooter genre has grown inspite of Halo, and infact Halo has been surpassed.

But halo was the start of it all. No halo, no boom.

Only in your opinion....
The XBox would probably still be somewhat popular, though it would rely heavily on Tom Clancy games. The GameCube would probably surpass it, but the Box would still beat the Dreamcast. As for the FPS genre, it would still be a beast, albiet one with a bit less sci-fi and a bit more gritty realism.
Love and tolerate.
