Excellent news.  Is this the same in other stores, other Gamestop stores and competitor stores too?


well I can't really talk about the specifics in my job because i could basically get in some huge trouble because there's been a lockdown on us at Gamestop since we leaked the Black Wii coming to America and Assassins Creed Brotherhood and all that but I have talked to all the store managers in a LARGE area (roughly 16 stores) and I know we are sold threw on Pre-Orders for the system for the next two shipments, In other words in our district people aren't even aloud to pre-order the system anymore because we can't come close to meeting demand and can't promise them when they can get a system because our next two Shipments are already completly sold out and they haven't even hit the retail floor yet. 


any thoughts on the new customers vs. replacement 360s ratio.  i just really don't get why this level of demand for a redesign.  if we take the baseline sales of the 360 at 50k and assume that MS had enough supply to meet demand then the lauch of the 360 slim would have reached 317k just in america(a 634% increase) plus we apparently still haven't met demand.  the ps3 redesign only did  around 500k worldwide with a $100 price drop.  these number just seem too big to me.

I will tell you its very true that ALOT of these are selling to pre-existing owners.  We are seeing alot of people upgrading their old consoles to this newer model.  At the same time though we are seeing an increase in new buyers as well since the launch of the 360s.  I would say if I had to put a number on it I would say 60% prior owners and 40% new buyers.  Also to be honest with you these numbers look small honestly compared to what I think it should be doing.  We litteraly haven't seen demand for a console like this since the Wii launch and its first year on shelves.  I'm not exactly sure what has pushed momentum so hard but the 360 in America right now is king even over the Wii, our Kinect pre-orders are massive too which may have something to do this huge rise in hardware numbers, not sure though. 

even if only 40% of these sales are new buyers that still a ton of new owners.  if this is a pre-effect of kinect then maybe i understand cause vs. the previous model included wireless at the same price just doesn't seem to warrent this kind of increased demand.  however, if this is really post E3 kinect momentum then i have even less faith in americans.  it's almost like people want video games to suck balls.

Have such bundles even been announced/confirmed?

Also, I doubt Crysis 2 nor Medal of Honor will push any significant amount of units, if any at all, for either console.

i hear on N4G that Reach special edition is in the works...dont know if its true but probably is...

GameStop dude , please tell me that u are not serious when u are saying that kinect is having massive pre orders :/ this is bad...

PS3  can over take the 360 in total sales by July 1, 2011. 5 million gap will be erased, primarily due to Gran Turismo 5 sales impact. PS3 will need to reduce price in  NA by $50 or bundle PS3 with value added benefits. Europe and Japan both seem like the PS3 price is right and  new games will help sales over the next 12 months.

I guess the people who were confused as to why they launched the revision so early in the year have been answered. I take it your shipments for the next two weeks have been spoken for right? This means the supply situation may not ease significantly until August and even then they haven't released the Arcade revision! I guess that gap might grow by half a million by the time the revision madness ends in time for the christmas madness.


yeah I can't really comment at all on other guys like Wal-Mart, Target, ect. since I have no contact with their numbers at all other than just going to my local ones and seeing them sold out, but I do think at Gamestop we are going to be severly supply constrained till about August or so.  I expect MS to send us some huge shipments at the beginning of September though to meet demand for Halo Reach.  Put it this way this summer its going to be very hard to get a 360s in store.

GameStop dude , please tell me that u are not serious when u are saying that kinect is having massive pre orders :/ this is bad...

no I'm not kidding at all.  Honestly though we are seeing very few core gamers pre-ordering Kinect so far, its leaning almost entirely to the casual or female markets.  In fact I would say 90% of its sales are going to that market.  Lots of parents picking them up for youger kids.  Also our number 1 pre-ordered Kinect game is Kinectimls.  Not sure how the rest of the country is fairing, my numbers are based off of one state so things could be different in other markets mind you.
