Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is probably the best series mentioned in this thread and it's pretty much suited to what you want. I'd also recommend BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, not enough people watch the damn show and it need's to be appreciated more. Stupid Otakus and their K-ON....

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Dragonball Z is overrated. Dragonball is far superior, and much, MUCH funnier.

Really the two series have little to do with one another. Dragonball was about adventuring, only at the very end of the series and the fights against King Piccolo/Majunior did it really bear any resemblance to Z. Z was all about fighting

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

i dont like Z., dragon ball is much better

I recommend anyone who hasn't watched way too much anime in their lives skip Gintama, it's full of inside humor (which I love, but you'll be confused most likely).

If you're going to watch Fullmetal Alchemist, skip the original and watch Brotherhood, as it's much better. Yu Yu Hakusho is very DBZ-ish. If you want to really see how far animation has come since the 90s (the actual visual animation) watch Basquash. It's fun and silly. Ruroni Kenshin is always a good one. I didn't like Gurren Lagann at all. Full Metal Panic is fun (gotta watch all 3 series of it). Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop if you just want some dumb action. Eden of the East is pretty awesome as well. Just go here http://myanimelist.net/topanime.php and start looking around. You'll find plenty to watch to last you multiple lifetimes.

Bleach

Death Note

Gurren Laggan

Samurai 7

Basilisk

U probably won't be into some of these animes, but, u can check them out.

If you just want generally good anime also watch Gundam Wing and Gundam Seed.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

i don't know if your taste in anime is the same as mine, but i'd say i watched "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" the other day and i loved it, these types aren't for everyone though.

- Wasteland - The Mission.

Reborn! is pretty funny, it's about a hitman tutor baby. Nuff said. Deathnote's  anime is really bad in comparison to the manga. Gin Tama  is basically a parody of all anime, and it's pretty good. Also, go watch Bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo for a hilariously stupid over the top anime. It's about a man who uses his nosehair to stop the reign of Lord Baldy Bald, a tyrant who wants to stop all hair.

If you don't mind watching online, suggest Yakitate Ja-pan!! (or Freshly Baked Bread). It's like Dragonball but they fight with bread contests and have a lot of corny jokes but still funny.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is really recommended. You should also watch Busou Renkin if you like Yu Yu Hakusho.

And if you want a bit of Mystery, there's Monster and When They Cry.

When They Cry is solvable so if you don't mind the psychotic kids and want to use your brain a bit then you should watch it.
