Forums - Sony Discussion - Why is everyone listing "No psp2" as a negative regarding the Sony's E3?

psp2 was just a rumour made up by the Internet doesn't mean it was ever in production. I'm guessing it's because people needed Sony to respond to the 3ds but how necessary is that? The psp however imperfect it is, is still around and not completely dead as some on here will have you believe.

But yes, I agree, lack of The Last Guardian, Resistance 3 and other confirmed to be in production was a fail but the lack of unconfirmed things is not a fail. What does everyone else think?

I actually think that it is still coming. They are just saving it to TGS because it will be Japan only this year.

It means Sony will be late with the 3DS competitor. The advantage as the PSP initially had over the DS was that it released about the same time and built up third party support before the DS was even considered a threat.

Well, Sorcery is getting a LOT of hype, it ain't looking half bad.

@rol

Move is not dissapointing..

On topic:

also I say it's smart that sony didn't announce a PSP2 because the PSP is already capable enough, and with the new ad campaign, along with a load of games coming out, it desreves atleast another year to itself, its just it needs that push sony claims it will give it

As much as I love my PSP. I always want new stuff.  Still I am hoping they will unveil the PSP2 or whatever they called it in the near future.

I want some more games for PSP before i have to shell out more $$$ for new hardware unless the new PSP2 is backwards compatible.

Because the incumbent handheld market leader has announced a new device with massive 1st and 3rd party support. If the PSP2 is going to be late to the party it is going to have to bring something that will flip handheld gaming upside down. This time around, the Playstation name doesn't have that weight of presumed success or the position of being a handheld for older gamers. Those advantages are back on Nintendo's side.

Any advantages not held by Nintendo are held by Apple (extremely cheap and accessible games, a diverse range of hardware formats, excellent internet and multimedia functionality, and the biggest digital game distribution system anywhere).

From where I'm standing, the only advantage PSP still has is a solid market presence in Japan, but there's no reason to expect that to endure when the competition is moving forward and Sony is standing around.
