Why? How could marketshare possibly be more important than profit?

For the fans it is. I don't care that much if Microsoft loses money on the Xbox, for me it's a lot more important that they expand their userbase, release lots of exlusives and win the console war so we can be proud in front of the Sony guys.

I can't tell if you're joking with that last part

It's obviously expressed in a humorous tone but I'm not joking.

We Xbox fans are very concerned that the Xbox hasn't got the respect it deserves from gamers all over the world.

Well as a stockholder I'm not too happy... but I understand the business strategy.
Luckily, my Nintendo and Microsoft stock are performing well... now just give me more dividends... and I'll be happy.

Please explain it to me, because I can't see how the PS3 will ever recoop the billions it's lost.

There has been more red dumped on Sony's financials than Carrie's junior prom.

Yet, people are still dancin to the numbers.........

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I think a pricecut is coming.

Yes we are because most of us aren't shareholders in SONY.

We see the 15 Million projection & see the potential of this system, we see the 13 Million mark they reached that people said they would never reach 1 year ago.

We should be doing more than dancing, a 3rd place console planning to ship over 15 Million in a year is something to PARTY over.

Sony is a multifaceted company folks. The loss isn't what it seems.

Every Blu-Ray drive the Networked division buys nets at least $8 revenue in another division (13M * 8 = $104M royalty reported in a diff division, and probably manufacturing revenues to yet another hardware division), every Blu-Ray disc printed costs the Networked division money, and yields revenue for Sony's own disc manufacturing plants, as well as more Blu-Ray royalties.

Gaining marketshare also isn't just about gaming. Every PS3 sold indirectly contributes to putting more Blu-Ray profits in Sony's pocket, by putting another BD player in consumer hands. Many HD consoles sold also inspire a HDTV purchase, often from Sony, or a company Sony shares production with (like Samsung), a new surround sound receiver purchase, speakers, you name it.

Not to mention the software they're producing while all this is taking place.

Yup, Uncharted 2, GOw3, R&C:ACIT, Heavy Rain (2nd party but its exclusive), Killzone 2 & of course the big one this year Littlebigplanet 2. Oh yeah and some game called Gran Turismo 5.
