FF13 ps3 vs 360 sales pt 2

it was better off with sony 235 67.14%

it was a good move to go multi plat 115 32.86%

Total:350

The results of this poll do not surprise me, as poll results on this site are often representative of just how unreasonable a fanboy mind can be.

The big problem with FFXIII was that it was not released in Japan on the 360. If that had happened, then this would've been a COMPLETE homerun for S-E (it would've even increased 360 sales in Japan). Still, it sold more than it would have if it was exclusive and spread FF to some new customers. Subpar reviews, though, have stinted sales as many say this just isn't one of the best games in the series.

So, just to reiterate, good move, but it would've been better for them if it was a TRUE multiplatform title in all regions, especially the one that was most hungry for the game.

Don't think it would be worth it in japan with only 2mil x360s (not sure)? Looking at these numbers as a whole I would say that total sales might fall around 6-7 mil (not to far off from ff12), I think all they really did was split the fan base.

that's more than 12 or 9. FFIX had 5.3X, FFXII had 5.6X, which I guess fits not far off From FFXII just more than twelve or FFIX.

Also, like kasz or whoever actually said, the PS3 is not the ps2, the xbox360+ps3 is about their same Userbase as PS2. I bought PS3 for MGS4 and FFXIII, and I am very pleased with the results. Less so with MGS4. Also, once again, SE made the decision because the PS3 was doing aweful at the time the port to xbox 360 announced. They
didn't want to release a very expensive game on a (then) failing console

So now that the ps3 is doing alot better, what will happen with vs and future games?

Final Fantasy XIII could have easily got a boost in reviews and sales for being one of the first few visually appealing games had it been released a year or two earlier. The linearity criticism would have been downplayed as well because most people probably would have been more fascinated by graphical advancements to bother criticizing the game for what it is.

If the development delays of this game were somewhat due to the game going multiplatform, then going multiplatform was not a good move in my opinion. From sales number perspective, Final Fantasy XIII has a good shot at beating Final Fantasy XII. At least, it looks like they did not lose money on this game so it is not a total failure. Unfortunately, we do not know exactly what Square-Enix was expecting so it is hard to say if they should be content with this result or not because Final Fantasy XII sales is not exactly the best in the series.

I think you are looking at it wrong, they didn't split the fanbase, it was already split and they needed both versions to reach all of them.

Alot of people fail to see several factors here. First off the xbox360 version had the advertisement in the U.S. (I can't speak for Europe), so there is a good chance many saw it as a 360 exclusive, which leads to the second point; the 360 in the U.S. had the FFXIII bundle which the PS3 did not in that region. Also userbase in the U.S. favors the 360 nearly 2 to 1, yet it still sold less. Now for those who want to cling to the whole "well the game wasn't released in japan for the 360!" Nice try but no. the 360 would have needed to sell to nearly the ENTIRE userbase in japan to have numbers remotely close to the PS3. The only game I have seen sell to 1/3 the 360 userbase is Halo series (Halo 1 to my knowledge) and FFXIII is definitely no Halo to that system. Exclusivity in itself would have pushed the game to sell alot more than it did on the PS3 also counting the fact that it's the first FF of this gen (remember how the FF sales trends go). Lets not forget the money spent porting it to the 360, although perhaps M$ did sufficient moneyhatting for that aspect.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

so basically they really didn't improve, they lost sales in japan while gaining sales in the west.

Hmm, I'm not sure as I don't know everything. About VS this is at a point where it is possible where I could disagree wtih SE. But I think (with no evidence) that FFv13 will be exclusive, or a timed exclusive for PS3. (I don't know how cheap it is to port. or if they'll get any incentives from sony)

But SE, in general I think is going to be multiplatform, as of right now their 3 Major Franchises FF, DQ, and KH, have appeared heavily on Wii and PS3, and SE is trying to
get into the xbox360 market as well.

But I could be wrong. I'm was just saying, I don't disagree with them porting FFXIII to ps3, as the ps3 was doing aweful at the time. and it is possible that they split the fanbase some. It's possible they didn't as it got split by Sony not being dominant anymore. There is not really a good way to prove either.

But as said the region that's hurting them the most is japan, And obviosly porting to the xbox 360 is not really the solution there.
