Same here.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

If Sony hadn't unlawfully forced the consumers to either lose Other OS or the ability to play future games, BD movies and use PSN, there wouldn't be a CFW.

Sometimes things are just as simple as they look.

Try reading the T & C of using your PS3, and you'll find ther is nothing unlawful with Sonys actions.

Guys, we need to rest about this whole OtherOS feature.

Honestly, who of you used the OtherOS feature? Nobody.
And even if there some people who used OO, nobody forces you to upgrade. You have to answer THREE times before the FW gets installed completely, so you can't make it by mistake. You loose PSN connectivity, but I don't think the users of OtherOS are really gamers. If you need Linux for your company as a cluster for example, chances are it won't be used gaming ar 99% I'd say.

Also, there's one argument that haven't been said before, I think. People whoa re buying sorely for Linux aren't doing Sony a favor, you know. The PS3 is sold at a loss. So if they buy PS3's Sony is going to loose a LOT of money, because they won't buy games, movies, controllers, etc.

If they remove OtherOS, sure, some minor sales of the PS3 are lost, but the people who are still buying PS3s (because they don't need Linux anyway) are buying games, movies and so on.

The PS3 is subsidized. And OtherOS clearly hindered that business model.

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

If Sony hadn't unlawfully Proof it has been ruled unlawful ANYWHERE as of now.. no I didnt think so

forced the consumers to either lose Other OS or the ability to play future games - Speculation at best, Prove to me that any games or movies require Fw greater then 3.15, Thats what I thought

and use PSN, there wouldn't be a CFW.  PSN access is a PRIVILEGE not a RIGHT.

I Challenge you to post a pic of your PS3 running linux with your VGC screen name visible along with something onscreen that proves its running on your PS3 or stop your personal crusade.

Nobody cares about CFW but pirates.

Geohot should be blamed for the removal of OTHER OS, his illegal actions alone forced Sonys hand. Afterall they are only protecting the console from piracy and losses they would have.

Future PS3 games devlopement would suffer too.

Thread reported I hope mods ban you damyouall, because you have no idea what CFW could do to people's PS3's when it does come out.

How juvenile

Reported you for making highly ignorant and misleading statements about CFW, I hope mods ban you as well.

If you knew ANYTHING about what CFW was about then you would know there is virtually no maleware for CFW consoles, PSP for example has had 1 "virus" written for it that I can recall and it was causing bricks, however in most cases CFW is tested as much or more then OFW and is, for the most part just as stable and reliable.

Well... if this does lead to homebrew and piracy you'll see PS3 catch up to X360 soon in hardware sales

9 of 13 friends I have chose x360 over ps3 because you can easily pirate games on it. I know it's sad, but it's true.

Sony took the Condoleeza Rice approach to the merest hint of there possibly one day maybe being piracy achievable through the Other OS feature. i.e. they chose not to wait for the smoking gun (actual illegal activity) and went to war with the CFW/Homebrew/FSM folks and the pirates when there may not have been any need for a war.

They could have simply released a statement saying that if the Other OS feature on the phat gets used for illegal software activity then they will do a FW release to remove it from all systems. Fire off a warning shot and wait with the FW bomb poised and ready for release at a moment's notice. Often a deterrent is as effective as direct action.

By trying to lock the door they just drew the attention of the lock pickers and gave them an enticing challenge. The irony being that 3.21 may end up leading to CFW/homebrew/piracy on PS3 sooner than would have been the case if they left the phats as is.

I haven't updated my phat yet. But mostly because I haven't tried to log in to PSN. If 3.21OO comes out before I feel inclined to get onto PSN, and it's fairly straight forward to install then I might just do it for no other reason than to thumb my nose at Sony's ridiculous reaction to this whole situation.

Good post. Why can't more people here have brains like you do? Oh the humanity.
