While that is true that wasn't my point. My point was that having actual, legit hackers who are smart, coordinated and just want to run linux on a machine go from having a legit way of doing so, to not having a legit way just means that they WILL hack the machine and games will start being pirated.

End of story. Period. Perhaps the same thing would have happened once all phat PS3s died and none existed but that time will probably never happen nor would it have happened on April 1, 2010. Either way, way to go Sony, you're opening the flood gates.

Why do people here seem to act like hacking things illegally in resonse to this is fucking noble or something?

All i see is "oh by golly buddy boy, those nice little hacker kids were all easy peasy and wantin' to shine yer shoes mmr. Sony exec. They were just trying to conquer the challenge and show their darndest skills, now youve gone and made them all victims" Bullshit. Thats all it is, bullshit.

This niave mindset that this punk and otyher punks who have dwindled th ePSP market, who cost game companies 360 software sales are some beacon of technilogical brilliance with kind hearts is making me sick. Give t a rest. This kids a douche, theyre all douches, if they were kind hearted and this smart theyd have a nice 6 figure paycheck from IBM, Intel or AMD or whoever the fuck would use their skillset. Instead the industry we all love and those trying to make an honest living in a legitimate market all lose because of these fuckwads. Give it a rest.

If anyone seems to "get it", it'd be you sir.

well it sure doesnt take much. Anyone who thinks even the possibility of the possible consequences is good is out of touch.

Yeah, its fun to rag on Sony but if these hacks ever see the light of day, its not the EMPIRE SONY people love to hate suffering, its people in offices, secretaries, small studio developers, actual families. These execs we love to hate arent the ones who feel the downfall from piracy, so i dont see how people say "Sony is evil or liars" The real people who would suffer form this might be people right around the block from you trying to pay their mortgage. Not Kaz Hirai or Jack Tretton. Some perspective could go a long way for the illogical who frequent these boards and fight the good fight against the PS3 at every opportunity.

But hey, its the interwebs so ill go back to streaming porn and watching fat people fall on youtube.

@steverhcp02

You've seen to misunderstood what I've said.

I never said he isn't a douche or that hackers (I know a few and could be one myself if I wanted to) are all saints and are noble.

My only statement is that, having the other OS option has made it so that people who can actually hack the PS3 "for fun" or whatever their reasons (despite what they may be) have no real reason to (except those that want free games and most of those people don't have the skills). Removing the option will only cause those people to actually know how to go and hack your system.

Thus my point is, way to go 3.21, PS3 CFW incoming. Never once did I say that hackers are noble (though most that I know just want to experiment  despite the consequences and are really nice and gentle people) nor did I ever say they are victims. And, FYI, many (I would argue the super majority of) hackers do have 6 figure paychecks from companies. You are making broad generalizations that hackers are all living in their parents' basement not doing anything.

EDIT:  Let me clarify.  My terminology of hacker here (since this is HW specific) is "somehow who is able to make a device do something it was not intended to do" which is usually, running unsigned code or maybe just getting to debug settings, stuff like that.  I am using hacker as a super set, not a smaller subset of people who intend to do malicious things with their device (for varying definitions of malicious).

And you seem to lack reading comprehension as never once in my posts did i say anything of the such.

I simply said if hackers WERE KIND HEARTED FOLKS then obviously this punk wouldnt be making threats, and he would simply "hack" for his own leisure. I said nothing of the such that i bolded, you seem to have taken my comments personally and got defensive.

I'm sure there are plenty of hackers with legit jobs inside the industry, however id venture to guess the detrimental hacks that cause harm to legit businesses are not done by those cashing 6 figure paychecks from large companies with stockholders.

EDIT: I saw your edit, and i addressed pretty much what you said already. I agree, but im onbviously speaking of what i referred to as detrimental hacks, like this kid. The obvious topic at hand has NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING to do with people taking their 2 slice toaster and hacking it to toast 4 slices. The outrage and discussion is solely that of malicious hacks.

Hackers should roast in hell.

@steve

You're right, my mistake.  I'm trying to multitask here and I put words in my head, my apologies.

I also didn't take it personally, the people who enable other people to pirate games are pretty big d-bags, but not every hack is enabling that bad behavior.  (Bad analogy time) I could stab someone with an ice pick and kill them but that falls more on my d-bag use of the ice pick and not the device itself.

I expect him to do something about it. It's 25% his fault this happened in the first place!

I'm pretty sure the % is higher than that in favor of it being his fault, but that's besides the point.

I wonder what else this guy does for a living. And, is he not concerned about criminal charges?

As you can see from this chart(that I didn't just make up) that it is exactly 25% his fault

I actually fully aprove of this chart.
