I'm actually very surprised about this. I would have expected a more competitive response rather than one that glazes over it. I mean they are the competition. At least "we have looked into this already" like Nintendo did when talking about Natal.

Although I don't understand the demographic part, seems to be a very safe response to the matter. Different from Sony's usually very aggressive PR. Obviously pointing out their involvement with 3D on the PS3, but I think this is rather suggestive. First, could suggest they just haven't really thought about 3D on portables. Or it could suggest that maybe they aren't really planning a new PSP in short term.

Anyways, does anyone know if Apple has responded to this or not?

Uh...what?  The minute you introduce Pokemon, Mario or Zelda to '3D', not only will 'kids' be hooked with it, but all the same markets that the DS has been targeting this gen.  And soon all the other genres and companies will follow.  Soon you'll have '3D Tetris' to '3D Metal Slug' to '3D Dragon Quest' to '3D Final Fantasy Tactics'.

Seems like a pretty standard PR response of 'we got nothing to say and 'DS is for kids'.

sigh, how many times do we have to go over this? Despite what many of you claim, The DS is targeted towards a "kiddie" audience and the Wii is as well. The people who buy games like Final Fantasy, MGS, Uncharted and Halo are in the severe minority when it comes to Nintendo consoles, which is the audience Sony and Microsoft are pushing for.

Sony is putting a lot of effort into 3D, so I think a success with the 3DS will only help sony, as backwards as that might sound. A success with the 3DS will help to continue to push 3D as a whole into the mainstream. That will help every company trying to push 3D.

Be a little fair, dude. He just said it'll be interesting to see how this'll translate to sales.

 

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the main demographic of the DS owners 5-17 year olds?

 

Just because something can appeal to kids, doesn't mean it's a bad thing. I'll take "kiddy games" over a large percent of other games which try too hard to be mature.

I'd say sony is planning on releasing a 3D portable, thus they didn't want to shoot the idea down but at the same time not give nintendo too much credit.

Pushing for an age range from 5 years old to 90 is not the same as being kiddy.

There is no word to describe how sony is blatant and pathetic if not "sony" itself...."we're not interested in gimmiks", we have seen this.
I also also guess that there is a huge demographic of people who wants to pay 300$ for a console 1000$ for a new tv to play 3D games with glasses and maybe other 100$ for move....
I bet that PSP2 will have 3D and touch-screen.
