Forums - Gaming Discussion - Need advice on getting a Gaming Laptop.

Ok well i need a new laptop in general so i decided i want to get one that plays most games at their rocomended settings.  Can i get some advice on what too look for in terms of RAM(amount and type), processor(amount and type) and so on?  If you have a laptop in mind then post a link to the site.  Thanks

this is for alienware, they are probably the best manufactured laptops for gaming, i dont like them as much tho since they were bought out by dell, its all somewhat customizeable

Forgot to mention, i am on sort of a budget so anything over 1,000 is not desirable.

If you are looking for a laptop that can run new games at their recommended settings for under $1,000, you are pretty much out of luck.

I just got Samsung

For the price its really good. Prolly wont run Crysis but it runs Age of Empires 3 with no hicups on the highest settings. I just got It so I can play games that I cant play on the consoles (RTSs and MMOs)

Gaming Laptop? Why? Laptops are highly inferior for gaming and a whole lot more expensive as well, its a lose/lose when it comes to games.

Firstly, don't get an Alienware. I've yet to see an Alienware with specs that couldn't be done at half the price.

Secondly, the money you spend on a laptop could buy a much better desktop PC.

Thirdly, you don't really need to pay much attention to RAM or processor. If it's got a good video/graphics card the other parts should be fine.

Here's a list of laptop cards from best to worst:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

My 'gaming' laptop has a Nvidia 8600M GT and it can play Bioshock, CoD 4 and anything from Valve. Today it's 102nd on the list. The games you plan on playing determines how far up that list you need to be. SLI and X2 means it has 2 graphics cards inside.

Quick look at newegg for laptops under $1000 has one with a Nvidia GTX 260M (20th best setup). 3 with a ATI 5650 (40th) and 3 with a ATI 4650 (50th). Depends what games you'll be playing and on what settings.

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

a full setting alien ware costs 10k soo i guess ur out of luck :P

Something with an ATi 5000-series GPU would be best.

On Newegg, the best one you'll find is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220695

However, that's a tad pricey, so you could also go for one of these two, depending on the HDD and screen size you want: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2034940032+1040254076&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&Subcategory=32&description=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=

But ultimately, you're best off not buying a "gaming laptop," since that pretty well equates to "rip off."
