Forums - Microsoft Discussion - IGN reviews Metro 2033 - 6.9!!

The problem is it's basically an FPS NOT dumbed down for console gamers. It's a PC hardcore game through and through. No telling you what to do next. No hints. The games amazing, played 4 hours so far and is up there with the best new IP's this gen.

Hard, but utterly rewarding. Better than Bioshock by some way. Also the animations are some of the best, not quite KZ2, but definately in the top 5 this gen.

ANYWHO

This looks awesome. As soon as I am done getting all the trophies in God of War 3, I will be getting this for the PC. :] I don't trust IGN anymore. Honestly, gameinformer is the only reviewers I trust anymore.

This is a PC title for me. I seem to remember STALKER getting harsh reviews as well, reviewers simply seem to loathe shooters that don't follow the norm and "behave" like the CoD series for instance.
Too bad for them, they're missing out imo and I still think I'm gonna love this game!

I love stalker, metro is a poor mans stalker, very, vert linear, a very average game, also very short with no replay value.

LMAO, its not even CLOSE to the best IP's this gen, i played it on PC, its not even near as good as stalker.

I'm still getting the PC version.

this game was hyped as hell,

but i think il still give it a shot.

Pehaps by Selnor but that's about it. I've seen many people go what's Metro 2033 or where did this game come from!?

Think I'm going to return my copy within 10 days for my full refund, that'll pay for my Just Cause 2.

The gameplay is fairly medicore. The shooting mechanics are pretty poor and overall the lack of ammo, bullet sponge/overwhelming enemies and piss poor weapon accuracy just makes the game frustrating to play. Like the review said, the stealth sections suck and it's very easy to get lost untill you realise your compass arrow is pointing to your next objective not north.

Of course though your not some Spartan super soldier or some Pro military guy from Call of Duty and you're using Post Apocalyptic weapons and ammo so the weapons won't be very powerful or accurate, it fits the theme of the game. Being in your characters position in real-life would be frustrating as hell too. Breaking gas masks, using cruddy weaponry etc.

On the plus side the atmosphere and environments are truly amazing. You feel really there in a living breathing post apocalyptic metro tunnel.. Not the happiest place too be :)

The outpost's have been bought to life with plenty of A.I survivor's just doing everyday stuff, you can find around 20 people in just one room.

You just summed up most of the reviews for everyone.

The atmosphere of this game is amazing, but judging from the reviews it's just your typical run-of-the-mill medicore FPS. If everything else is great, but the gameplay isn't, then that really hinders the experience deep down. Which is a shame, because I was really looking forward to this game.

I've just updated my post a little. I think really what they're doing with Metro 2033 is making it as if it were real life, it would be frustrating using cruddy weapon's and bullets that offer very little firepower, it would be frustrating not knowing where to go or being unable to turn your flashlight on within a pitch black room because you wouldn't want to alert the bystanding guard. It is frustrating having your gas mask break but it's all what the developers of Metro 2033 are aiming for. That realistic and hard experience.

Really it's just a Post Apocalyptic FPS simulator and FPS sim's aren't enjoyed very much within the console community who consist of mostly Halo and COD fans now days. Probably because you don't have that "Rawr I'm an unstoppable steam roller of death!" effect. You feel pretty puny in Metro 2033 and a mistake could cost you your life. Sims are generally more suited for PC gamers.

Maybe I'll enjoy the game a little more now I have realised this ;)

IGN SUCKS!!! They are SO BIASED against GOOD GAMES that they just give SUCKY GAMES top scores whilst giving REALLY REALLY GOOD GAMES bad scores. I THINK ANYONE who LIKES GOOD GAMES ought to just BOYCOTT IGN!!!

Tease.

I'm only 3 hours in but I would rate it much higher than that so far. I wish i could figure out why it runs so poorly on my PC though. I've had to play it in low settings just to get a stable framerate ;_;
