Forums - Sony Discussion - why I think losing BC is so so bad for Sony.

BC is a perfect way for Sony to communicate with the 100 million PS 2 users that their next home is the PS3. When it lost it, it became no different than Xbox 360 to the PS 2 users. Think about Hd dvd or Blue ray units. They all have BC to regular dvd to make the transition easier and even upscales them.  BC was Sony's strongest competive advantage over Xbox 360 and they forsake it. Its just a marketing ploy they couldve used even if no one uses it.

Double posting... the site is somewhat slow.

Droping it was a good move. No one is going to care about about old PS2 games. This is just something for people to bitch about.

Do we really need another thread about this?

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

As always Leo-J misses the point ...

I agree with the original poster. In order for Sony to tap into the Playstation Brand they needed to release a system which was an affordable alternative to someone who was looking for a PS2, and offer backwards compatibility with the PS2.

That's why they have two different systems on sale.

I couldn't care less about BC who cares if I have too keep my PS2 to play older games, what do I care. I wouldn't throw it out anyways so for me BC is useless, although if giving the choice to have it, I would obviously take it.

well they had to have a cheaper model for christmas, and that ment either losing billions with another price cut, or another model with less features, unfortunetly it lost BC, in the short term it may hurt sales but by early to mid 08 nobody is going to care.

Nobody cares about ps2 games... they care about new games. Why do you think they would buy a ps3?

Some people care and others don't. Having both on sales would be the best plan.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
