Forums - Sony Discussion - FFXIII Staying PS3-exclusive it seems.

"Kitase: Just like how 7 was a huge improvement from 6, the improvement between 12 and 13 may be big too."

Just in case I had any concern left for the Final Fantasy series, this quotation had the opposite effect of what was intended and confirmed my complete disinterest in this game.

Actually, I believe the White engine was designed around the PS3 and that is why SE licensed the Unreal 3 engine to produce multiplatform games (IGN is one place that reported it).

*edit* However, source articles on Wiki (because I decided to try and look it up because I'm sitting her bored....) say that it is multiplatform. Also, looking it up on other sites doesn't even mention it as being multiplatform, but saying that it was developed to make the leap from PS2 to PS3.

Its not just you Bodhesatva. That quote pretty much quelled what little interested I had left in the series. There has been no precident for the Numbered FF titles going multiplatform. So I have always thought that FFXIII was unlikely to receive the multiplatform treatment. Sure its possible but, unlike Konami with MGS4, Square Enix has never given conflicting statements in regards to FFXIII's exclusivity.

I never expected Square to put it on any other console. Despite 360's good American sales, by the time this releases, PS3 should have a healthy share in America and Europe to support this game. And then of course Japan PS3 will have a higher userbase.

Would never go on the Wii as technically it would take a lot of time to port it over, which woudl go against what they are trying to do right now. So no surprise here.

I only started playing FFs at X so I missed out on the world of the 3D airship and I really want it, but all this specualtion about the next game is killing me because it is so far away, for now I'm just hoping my Uncharted is dispatched soon (my dualshock 3 is ready to ship!) and I will try and forget about this game for the next year

Do you have a source on that? I've never heard about it being anything but a ground-up PS3 engine.

Hiromichi Tanaka has been quoted stating, "Last year we went through a development reorganization, with the development of our own cross-platform middleware – the white engine." [source]

Shrug, FF7 took 6's good music, storyline, and turned it into mediocre music, and a horrific storyline!

Maybe they'll take 12's non existant storyline, mediocre music, and make it into the best, well written game ever, and maybe better music? Shrug, still interested. Just, wait 2 more years.

First off, I really don't care what system FFVI was for-- I just think it's awesome (though not perfect). And yes, I do believe that FF games have been steadily going downhill since VIII. If you pay attention, I actually don't mind VII. I don't think it's the hot shit that everyone says it is, but I'm not going to flame people and tell people to keep their opinons to themselves (*hint hint* hunter_alien).

Argh! Downhill since VIII? You including IX in that? If you are, then you sir are a fizzle.

IX was the valiant effort I mentioned. It did a lot of good things but it completely fell apart in the end.

I can hope by improvement they mean not being the piece of crap that XII was, but I'm guessing by improvement they really do mean graphical standards and they will just continue to use the same exact characters over and over again and just make a giant fan service.

Man, it's sick how harsh people are on Final Fantasy these days. If it didn't have FF in front of an number, many would have different opinons of it.
