Forums - PC Discussion - Starcraft 2 Requirements (For Beta)

PC Minimum Requirements:
• Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1/Windows 7
• 2.2 Ghz Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon processor
• 1 GB system RAM/1.5 GB for Vista and Windows 7
• 128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card
• 1024x768 minimum display resolution
• 4 GB free hard space (Beta)
• Broadband connection

The min requirements are surprisingly small. I mean seriously... 2.2GhZ Pentium 4 and a 9800 PRO video card? I was under the impression the stopped making those things back in 2002... I think I might install this on my microwave and see how it runs after I stick extra RAM in it, currently it only has like 512MB.

Blizzard has a history of low minimum system requirements. I'm more interested in seeing the recommended system requirements, though.

not small for the average consumer...most cheap computers you buy come with 2gigs of ram and no video card, especially if its a laptop which is what most people playing SC2 will be using (college kids). There is also no mention of the reqs for a Mac?

Blizzard has always been very conservative with their system requirements.

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

About 80% of the PCs on Steam meet those requirements.

kind of expected.

It's not like graphics are an essential part of the enjoyment of blizzard games (unless you count artstyle in there).

Great news, this is the kind of decision that made the first starcraft such a success.

GG life =(

How much graphics does a RTS game really need? I bet if you upped the resolution of the original Starcraft and improved effects a bit, most people would be happy enough.

Didn't supreme Commander have some heavier reqs when it came out?
