difficulty is something subjective but in Demon 's Soul case only the pro gamers will be satisfied i don 't blame you i died many times but i made me even better and became better in the game by the time and then is the part that it is becoming addictive in my opinion

I never knew if i was going the right way, the story didnt make sense and where the fuck is the end of the level at? You die and have to walk another 20 minutes back to where you were just to die again.

One last thing, this game over complicates things, I played it and found the Bastard sword, So i equip it and it says something about ability, so i say oh i cant use it? So i swing and it looks like can i can use it. I walk up to a knight swing and 2 damage....

You're only given an intro to the story. Everything else unfolds as you play and communicate with NPC's. The end of a level is made obvious when you get there... When you start up an area, you're job is to explore that area and find and destroy the boss Demon's that inhabit it.

If you die, walk back to where you died and die again, it means you failed again. Plain and simple. That's where you take the initiative to figure out what you're doing wrong and correct it. You have to work your way back there as punishment for dying in the first place. The game doesn't hold your hand and bring revive you at a check point that was just 8 seconds away form where you died. If you're able to and actually succeed at the level, you're rewarded with more souls than what you would have gotten with just a straight playthrough with no deaths.

If this is to complicated for you then just give up:

The basterd sword is a Large sword and has a high strength requirement of 18.
If you got a message saying you weren't strong enough to wield this sword with one hand [right hand], then your strength stat is under 18.
Press triangle while the weapon is in your right hand (primary attack hand) and you wield it with both hands. Using a sword with two hand should be easier to wield than just one hand... makes sense? If all that's required for you to use the weapon is some better strength then two hands should fix the problem. Makes sense?
Of course, this means you don't have a shield. You can block with the sword but it doesn't guard as well as a shield so you will take more damage. Since you don't have your shield which is used for parrying, you can't parry...

How hard is it just to take some time and learn the status screen? Did the symbols scare you off?

4 ≈ One

This game is a test of bravery and endurance. You will frequently be ambushed, surrounded, and outclassed. If you fail to overcome these challenges, your punishment is to restart the whole level. If you do succeed, the game is very interesting. You will eventually witness and understand the madness of Boletaria and decide at the very end whether to change the land or let it rot.

Mastering close combat is essential to beating this game. You must be very clear when to attack, defend, and retreat. As you may know already, one bad call is more than enough to cripple you if not kill you. This game forces you to play better. There is no way around it.

I will admit that the condescending attitude being assumed by some posters here is kind of shocking. There's nothing ignoble or dishonorable in disliking a game because it is frustrating.

If you didn't suck so much at the game , you would see that repetition is non existant. But because you keep dying your lack of gaming skills is ruining the experience for you because you think is repetitive and it doesn't progress, but no, the game isn't repetitive, it's that the game is too much for you to progress trough it.

Raise to the challenge or sell the game to a more suitable gamer.

Its sounds to me like quite a few people need not improve there gaming skills ......... this is a gaming site

I'll still try it out for myself, but your post has diminished my interest in Demon's Souls substantially. I like a challenging game, but a well-designed challenging game isn't repetitive. If you're not good enough, you simply won't be able to pass the difficult parts (without playing on an easier difficulty level). What you're describing is the opposite of this - being forced to replay long sections of a game just tests your patience, not your skill.

I actually have a lot of patience. I've played and beaten punishing games before, and done boring grinds in MMOs. It's just not fun. At the end, I don't have that sense of accomplishment, that I was skilled enough to defeat a serious challenge. I simply feel like I wasted my time for no real purpose.

I 'gotta admire your honesty in posting this, and hope you didn't get pelted by too many half bricks from the many who clearly don't see it that way.

I personally don't think Demon's Souls is bad at all, because it's designed that way, but I agree with you completely and won't be playing the game after trying a friend's import for exactly the reasons you state.

The approach it takes is just not for me, however I think 'bad' means a failure to achieve your design goals - for example bad aiming in an FPS or something like that. There is no doubt Demon's Souls is designed to give exactly the experience you got, therefore I don't think it's bad just not to your (or my) taste in terms of gameplay mechanics.

I just couldn't grind like that either - but I do kind of admire the crazy masochists who do. It's like when I see someone with a Platinum Trophy for Wipeout HD and I think how mad they must be to stick with a game that hard to get that result, but admire the effort.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and Demon's Souls is not a game for everyone.

It seems one of your main gripes is that Demon's Souls is a heavily based on grinding, and that's basically correct. You'll have to do tons of grinding, especially if you're still learning the basic mechanics and the timings of the game. It's not an easy game to pick up and play, and it has one of the steepest learning curves of recent games.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, but not everyone feels the same. I think that's also why it got so much critical appraisal and so much fan following, it's because it broke from the mold of hold-your-hand type of games.

Demon's Souls is my favourite game so far in this generation and easily ranks in my top 10 of all time. I put over 100 hours in it for the platinum, even when I lost my saved data for the first time, I didn't give up, instead I used that learning experience to improve myself.

Now, I don't agree with elitism from both ways, those who are calling you out for not handling the game, and those who are saying that the game sucks because of it's design choices. Learn to accept that every game is different for everyone and don't downplay games and gamers for their choices.

You don't think it reasonable to make a quality judgment concerning design decisions?
