Like every rumor that started on twitter, this will be false. There's no way Nintendo is letting a SEGA mascot be in a main line Mario game. It would just ruin the game it will not be Mario anymore. If the game was called Mario & Sonic Adventure or whatever, then yeah, but this is false.

What this might mean though is that there could be an upcoming 3D game in the Sonic Universe that we know nothing about, that could be the first 3D free roaming Sonic game ever, not linear like everyone before. So this could be a hint?

Maybe nintendo asked for sonic in return for having mario in the olympics games sega makes

sounds like a fair deal to me.

That's the very opposite of what actually happened. Nintendo outsourced the development of M&S to Sega. "The olympics game Sega makes"... do you actually believe this game would have sold remotely as well without Mario and the other N characters? It's a Mario game, first and foremost, and Sega were lucky Nintendo was willing to involve them.

Funny because Sega holds the license rights to the Olympic games not Nintendo so how could Nintendo possible outsource it?

Sega also makes Olympic games for HD consoles, ipods, etc, they just don't have Mario in them (or Sonic)

... as a boss?

Why are their pigs flying in the sky O_o Also no it shouldn't happen. I want Mario in his own game. I don't need a hedgehog to ruin the mood

Tag:I'm not bias towards Nintendo. You just think that way (Admin note - it's "biased".  Not "bias")
(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Fine, you're right about the Olympic games license. But I think we both agree that the game wouldn't have happened had Nintendo not participated. Btw, in Japan it is even published by Nintendo...

And don't you think its success is largely based on the fact that people see it as a proper Mario game? How would "Just Sonic at the Olympic games" have sold?

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

No debate there.   Mario greatly boosted sales of this title.   Mario as a brand is huge as people equate Mario with quality and fun (unlike poor Sonic).   However, Mario Sluggers, Strikers and Tennis have all just squeaked by 1m so Mario sport titles are not that big.    The success of the Olympic games is truly a combination of the three elements - Mario, Sonic and sport mini-games on Wii.
